Help with Fluorescent Lights - First time grower

In your case I would go with just topping or fimmimg a couple times and lst. Just tie the baranches down. You could also super crop.

Lst and scrog do maximize yield but only because of the extra veg time. All growth methods will yield close to each other with the same veg time. Just different proportions of buds. Like one big cola and lots of little ones for single cola plant. Topping will give you more tops, slightly smaller. Etc.

As a new grower I would recommend dialing in environment and keeping the plant healthy. The yield will follow.

I use a durolux light from amazon. I own two models and they both have been working non stop for a year and two years. They make a bunch of different models.

Even though I'm first time grower. I am currently growing 3 plants now. The 2 in the picture above and one baggy seed I found growing in a pot plant I discard seeds into. One thing I did notice especially when the plant got into a few weeks of flowering was that it was incredibly difficult for floros to penetrate into the lower canopy and thus it is going to affect my yield. Side lights were added and then later removed mostly owing to me wanting most of my lights in the new grow where the 2 known strains are currently vegging.

About what you said about extra veg time, I don't mind vegging a couple weeks longer to increase yields. I'm just trying to decide on something that a new grower will have the least chance in killing the plants. Also I hear that there are more preferred methods for the different strains? Is this for specific types i.e. Indica or Sativa etc. or would each individual strain react completely different to the method applied?

What floros are you using? I get plenty of penetration from t5. This plant is three foot tall.

I would probably just top them a couple times and a little lst to open the canopy for your first couple runs.

It wouldn't hurt to grow a few all natural until you see how they respond.

Yes, not every strain responds the same. I grew some Hawaiian skunk haze that hated any kind of topping or removing growth. It would stall for weeks before taking off.

You just have to experiment and keep notes of what strain likes what.

I am still growing new strains and learning. You get an eye for it. You can kind of tell how a plant will respond.

I'm a bit apprehensive on topping? When should I start? And how often after do you top again? I've started tying down a few branches in order to allow lower branches to have some light as well. I see that other growers are very lets say rough with their plants and I'm seeing extreme bending? What are your thoughts on what I've done now?image.jpeg

Most wait until the plant has 5-7 nodes. I've topped mine earlier than that.

Top at anytime. Wait for it to recover and new growth. At a couple weeks between toppings. Maybe longer if the plant is slower to recover.

Yours looks fine. The trick to lst is to do a little at a time. Also watch out for bending so hard you split the main stalk. I've done it. Lol.

We all make mistakes. I've dropped lights and other things on my plants.

That's exactly why I'm going to move my hygrometer, the amount of times its accidental fell and flattened my plants :shock: Also no one has seemed to answer my question about if I should transplant to a bigger pot? Your thoughts?

Hi all. Just noticed that some of the lower leaves on my one plant have started to look unhealthy. Is this normal once they aren't receiving enough light? (Since they are now covered by bigger new leaves above?) what can I do?image.jpeg
