hi guys.... I am new to germinating seeds, i have read up about it but have a couple of questions....i am using the paper towel method, i have 2 blue cheese and 2 amnesia, i left them in damp paper towel over night inside 2 plates in a kitchen cupboard but i don't think it was warm enough, this morning i read a bit more, so now i have them in the damp paper towel inside plates which are wrapped in bags and then finally a towel on the kitchen floor below a radiator (my kitchen temp is around 21.8*C), as i don't have a linen cupboard or boiler cupboard which is warm....will the seeds be ok after this? and can they be too warm? and finally when/if they do pop and transfer them to soil, would i put them straight under light before they break through the top of the soil?

thanks in advance for any help

There are may ways; if you soak the seeds for 24 hr - then plant them in your growing medium works well, paper towel method good also, find one that works for you,and the less you transplant the better . trial and error

Temperature needs to be about 24c for germination. Soak seeds for 24 hrs then put them in damp papertowels between two plates. Then once taproot appears plant root down into your medium or a rootplug

Keep it about 21-24c at that stage.

Easy lol

Hey pal. I think your seeds will be fine if you let them germinate. Don't keep poking at them though! Personally I have much success by putting them in a cup of water for 24 hours. By tha time the seeds crack and drop to the bottom of the cup. After that I put them in damp paper towel inside a ziplock bag somewhere warm for 24-48 hours. Generally after 24 hours they have a taproot exposed. I then drop them into small solo cups with soil. Taproot pointing down and dust a little soil above them, a touch of water and back into a warm but dark place. After another 24-48 hours they clear the surface and begin to veg under 24/0 or 18/6 light. It took me a while to figure out this process but now I have it down to an art and it's rare I lose a seed.

So in short. If you see a small taproot pop out, get them into soil and somewhere warm ASAP. Not to deep, maybe half an inche! If you can't find somewhere warm that doesn't include your kitchen floor, just put them under a light. It won't harm them it'll just dry your soil at a quicker rate and you don't want to be over watering because that's where they will easily die during the first week of veg.

Good luck!

hey thanks fultono , great response, exactly what I wanted to know, very much appreciated ..... is the 24 hours in a cup of water absolutely necessary? , as your not the first to mention this, and I did not do it

it's not necessary, but a better method then paper towels and plates, I have a very high success rate with seeds. I only soak for 12 hrs, put them into root riot and leave them alone until they are plants. Simple, and you don't risk damaging the fine hairs taking it out of the paper towel.
