Help with lights

CFL lights and High Intensity Display (HID) are the two main lighting that growers use, CFL come in 3 flavors to you plant Soft white, which budding stage likes, daylight which veg likes and another one but it isn't that usefull to you plant. HID come in three varaities High pressure sodium, which uses the best light to a plant. Really if you're going to spend money on a system for HID I don't see a point in looking at the other two types anyways.

HPS(high pressure sodium) is best for flowering...MH (metal halide) is better for vegging...Just like the 6500k cfl's are better for veg and the 2700k are better for flower. HPS is higher in red light MH is higher in blue light...

Blue light mimics the earlier stages of summer(vegetative growth) and red light mimics the coming of fall(flowering)

Many people use switchable ballasts(like the one that came with my MH) so you can switch from MH to HPS without 2 seperate ballasts.

Just so you can see the point of why people use other HID lighting...

cool, I didn't know that the other two did have strong points, most people on here just use HPS and don't ever talk about the other two.

if you could only do one or the other I would go with the HPS since it is better for flowering, and thats what counts most...

I think the other is the mercury vapor, but I don't know where it stands as far as color output...

If I can make a suggestion, you may want to do a lot more reading and research about growing before you start. How old are you anyways? If you're living with your parents, you shouldn't grow at home!!

Don't use tin foil, its one of the worst things you can use. You'd be better off painting the inside of your cab white.

You cab dimensions should be ok for a plant or two.

You definitely need an exhaust fan. Air circulation is VERY IMPORTANT. There's also a damn good chance you're going to need a filter as well. Even one plant will stink up a room pretty good, especially during flowering.

As far as lights, look for cfl bulbs in the 6500k range for veg, and 2700k for flower. Get the highest wattage you can find. And MAKE SURE the bulbs you get have the 6500 and 2700 on them. Don't guess!! You can use these bulbs any million and one ways, do it however you want and whats easiest for you. Just keep them as close to the plant as possible without burning it.

Keep reading this website, all the info you need is already here.
ahh i see..the flowering stage needs less light then veg??? thanks man appreciate it

18 hours on(uninterrupted) 6 hours off(uninterrupted) or 24 hours on do that for as long as you want them in the vegetative stage...switch to 12 hours on (uninterrupted)12 hours off(uninterrupted) to flower.
6500k and 2700k will indicate the color put off by the light...
You should have proper venting for the entire grow, as for an a/c that depends if you will need it to control the heat or not

When your plants are put in 12/12 for flowering, thats when you want to break out all the best/biggest/brightest lights you got. That will help you yield bigger buds, among other factors of course.

How long to veg? Pretty much however long you want to....keep in mind that most of the time your plants will x2 or x3 their size during flowering. So if you have space/height limitations, you want to keep that in mind. Some people run their plants 12/12 as soon as they are sprouted.
