Help with Seedling

Noob here,

The first true leaves are starting to get lighter yellow on one of my seedlings, is she hungry or is it something else? 20 days since germination, It’s in a seed starter I made with coir/perlite/worm castings. I’ve been giving only water so far and am going to transplant into a soil I mixed up similar to coots mix.

Id say its either ph or over watering or both..
What are you using for water, tap,? Bottled? City or well water?

I’m using distilled water, it’s PH is 5.9. I watered it a bit heavier last time than previously so I could see that being the problem.
The soil was pretty dry this morning (last time I watered was Thursday night) so I gave it a little bit of water today but not so much that there was any run off in the container. Just enough so that I could notice that the container was heavier than it was before.
I also added a little bit of worm castings on top before watering today in case of a deficiency. Lol I’m not sure if that would even do anything but I’m fairly certain it won’t hurt it so I figured what the hell.

You Being a noob grower Id get some decent potting mix and transplant them.. my guess is they were struggling from the start.. my sprouts are 10 days old and are as big or bigger.. yours could be lacking food.. or other minerals ..
It looks to me like lack of food or ph is all over the place causing a lock out.. 17010372154861336768916.jpg
These are in a basic peat based potting mix.. 17010373740332093269759.jpg

The seedling in the pic is a poster-child for over-watering.
Stop watering until the pot is 1/2 the weight or less
Roots need some air to develop

The pic could be a little misleading, I had put some worm castings on top before I watered it today. Idk I just figured I would rather do something than nothing I case it was a nitrogen deficiency or something. I’m waiting a couple days before watering and waiting until the cup is light and dry up to my first knuckle. Here is a better picture of them from Friday. You can see that the growing medium has plenty of aeration, it’s 2:2:1 coir:perlite:worm castings. I agree that it still is probably a better idea to start with a better soil than what I used this time tho.

As mentioned above, you should be fertigating coco to runoff with every watering.
Although it's all but impossible to over-water coco with a developed root system, it is possible to suffocate a seedling's delicate roots.
If you yanked that seedling out, I'd bet there's only a few roots with minimal branching.
Adding some worm castings is not a substitute for a suitable hydroponic nute mix.

Gotcha, without the nutes would my best bet be transplanting them into larger containers with a good soil? Soil and Gaia green is what I am trying to do so that is what I have on hand. I’m guessing starting in the coco mix was a bad idea and I should just go straight to soil next time.

honestly i dont know why you are using worm castings with coco coir. coco coir is a hydroponic medium it has nothing no fertilizer nothing. your worm castings do not contain "everything the plant needs" what you need is too stop giving it worm castings and start giving them a good base fertilizer like a micro grow bloom 3 part base made for coco coir.
i grow with coco coir and i feed with fertilizer every single time i water.
you sir are messing up so bad.
i feel so bad for your plants.
they are literally starving so they are eating the nutrients stored in the leaves for food. :( poor babies :((((

Obviously I’m making mistakes. That’s why I’m reaching out to strangers on the internet. I’ve got a peat based soil with amendments that’s been cooking for 3 weeks now so I’ll just transplant into that and see where it goes. Next time I’ll not get cheeky trying to make a seed starter with extra coir I had on hand and I’ll just go straight into soil. Lesson learned.

Light feed say 1/5th of normal nutrients and give them 1 and a half teaspoons of it quick as to me it is starving for nukes. It is time to give small feeds but daily and keep an eye on colour. :leaf:
