Help With Venting!!!

Well I just got an AC to DC power supply that I can adjust from 3.3v to 12v. I can run all five of my fans on this plus room for expansion. I have 2 120mm 110cfm adjustable fand and 3 120mm 70cfm fans. I do have a dilema right now. I am not sure if I will go with a DWC bucket or soil grow. I have to be a stealth as possible with this grow. I do not know how much sound the dwc will make. Dose any one have any experience with this? I do not want to spend money on the dwc if it will not work. Is there any way I to quiet the bucket? Maybe insulation around the bucket? Any ideas would be apreciated.

the air pump is a source of noise, and the actual bubbles in the bucket are another. For the air pump itself, you can get a bungie cord and suspend it in the air. This reduces the noise alot, and also stops any vibrations (which can travel farther then the noise itself).

the Bucket noise from the bubbles is harder to silence. You could insulate your bucket, but that may screw with the temps of the water (keeping the water warmer then it should be). I dont do anything for this type of noise. Its not too loud with 2 big buckets going. Sounds like a fountain or something running. I dont think the sound leaves the room...

Thanks. I knew the rubber band trick for the pump. I am not to worried about the pump noise. I am more worried about the bubble part of it. I guess that I will have to build one and see. What do you recomend for air out put of the pump? Im assuming that the smaller the air bubles the better for the plants as well as noise. Is there an airstone that will make a lot of fine bubbles? I will also mount the stones so that they do not contact the bucket. im sure this will help as far as sound gose. What do you guys think?
Thanks

While most any airstone will work for our purposes, there are a few things to keep in mind.

First, an airstone which puts out very fine bubbles will saturate the nutrients with the highest levels of oxygen moreso than an airstone which puts out larger sized bubbles. The more oxygen, the better, so choose an airstone which will put out the finest bubbles.

Second, in regards to airstone size, you can choose from the small 1" airstones to the large 6" airstones. They will all work, and of course the smallest are the cheapest. While its not absolutely critical where the airstone is placed, it is important that it is in the deepest level of the bucket to ensure that long roots are getting enough oxygen. The small 1" airstones will need to be weighted down with a small lead fishing weight or a nut to keep it at the bottom of the bucket. For this reason,I prefer to use the 4" airstones. They put out the same size bubbles as the 1" airstones, but have enough weight to them that they will stay placed at the bottom. Airstones that sit in the nutrient solution may eventually become clogged, so keep an eye on them. If they do start to clog, you can scrub them with a wire brush under hot water and they will be able to be used again. To ensure that your airstone is working efficiently, replace them from time to time as needed.

Thanks Mogie. I think i will us 2 4in air stones. This sounds like a good distribution of oxygen. What size air pump should I use? This will be a 3 gal bubble bucket. Thanks again for all the input. I want to make sure i do this right.

For a 3 gallon bucket, you can get away with the smallest pump.

Theres a cheap pump for 30 gal tanks. You could Y-split it, and feed 2 10 gallon tanks with MORE then enough air. These run about $12-20. If you got one of these, you would be frothing the water. Overkill in Oxygen is a good thing.

Frothing sounds good to me lol. I will pick a pump and air stones up tomorow. I hope there wont be too much noise. I dont want to have to haul soil in and out. If this dose work out, any ideas for nutes?

I found some 10" and 12" air stones at Miejer in the pet department for $1.99. They put out lots of small bubbles, and have enough weight to stay on the bottom.
