Help wWith Scrog

Hello everyone. Relatively new to growing, and this is my first scrog. I'm about three weeks in to 12/12 after topping and LSTing in veg for about 6 weeks. They're under 400w HPS and have produced lots of leaves, branches, and flowers are starting to form. Here's the Q-What exactly am I supposed to be trimming? I know about the leaves, but what about all the new little branches on the bigger branches? How do you know if a bud/flower will form? I'm confused about bud formation-some of the branches contain lots of little branches that look like they could grow together and form a cola. but like I said they are little branches, not flowers. Could an experienced grower explain and illustrate what is going on and what I should be doing? How do I increase node development and recognize where a node will be, or are they already determined by the time they get to 12/12? Explosive harvests to all members here. Thanks-tboner1

You dont want to be trimming right now, maybe training. Do you have a screen up ? All you trim might be energy the plant can use in flower. Do you have any pics? If you search (advanced) youll find a wealth of info. Alot of people are reluctant to answer.

I thank you for answering-since I'm new all around (using computers on up), I guess I don't understand why people would be reluctant to answer-so thank you, again! i put them under the net, and I have read (seems like a million times and sires) that you are supposed to trim off all the growth under the screen, primarily for the air flow (what I interpreted from all the reading). I have been trimming a little at a time (so as not to over stress-I'm doing MK fem. and some beleive the fem seeds prone to hermie). But now the Q arises about the new growth of branches and the formaiton of the buds themselves. I don't have a dig camera at the moment, but I can borrow one, but then comes the problem of posting the pics-too advanced for this computer newb and don't want to piss people off-read a few of their posts here, and geeez-talk about taking out your frustrations! Take a break and light one up! What else can I say?

some say trim anything under the net or so that isnt reaching the light , if you have new shoots forming above the canopy , let them be if there getting even light, it ll just be more flowers/ buds. Just remember that you can never put back what you take off. If you do remove from the bottom just be easy, most of the leaves and such that dont receive enough light will eventually die off . If you just go slow and let it keep flowering youll see what you should remove, shoots that will never get light and so on , but the leaves are energy. Just remember its only a weed. What ferts are you using?

I'm using Humboldt organic grow/bloom, their schedule, stinky stuff, but the plants seem to love it. I haven't tried any bud boosters. what is your experience with them? Thanks Hillbilly345, rep to you.

What strain are you trying? I am on 4th gen.clones from Nirvana-Master Kush femenized. Eerything I have tried with this strain Lst, potting soil, hydro, topping, potting mix-all have worked well. Very potent, good brancher, good yielder, big stinker!, very forgiving, too. Easy to clone, great all-arounder. Tried Wonder Woman from them, too, but I think a mite prob. kept them from peak performance. Long internodes, taller and lankier, but pthers seem to have had better results. This was before I knew anything about keeping node space lower etc. Peace.

wat is a scrog
screen of green. It is where you train a plant to fill a large net allowing a much larger canopy much like a tree in the rainforest. When you flip the switch to 12/12 there are many "sub-colas" instead of 1-4 main colas and lots of popcorn

Well hello there,

I am one of the "scroggers" around these parts. I would be happy to help. I think the best I can do for starters is point you in the direction of a thread that I created to help people in your situation (b.t.w. I have grown in MI too). It is a compilation of information and photos thrown together in order to collect the information needed to build a comprehensive tutorial thread. That thread has yet to be completed, however you are welcome to read through what has. If you have questions or comments please post thanks.

Scrog: A method of trellising plants in order to deliver equal lighting to a uniform plane or growing surface, ideally resulting in uniform flower production with an emphasis on maximized use of space.

Hello Woodsman, I feel honored to have your views and help. I use yout great tutorial as my main reference for scrog and because of you I gained the confidence to try it-basically twice-and at the same time, but there were a few things I didn't see that maybe you could help me with. Sorry it took a few days to respond as a family member has passed, I;m sure you understand sabout that. My original confusion of the developing buds is becoming a bit clearer as scrog growing shows more easliy what;s going on with the plants, but I still would like to know 1)Are the buds already pre-formed before they hit 12/12, or do genetics qnd environment determine the amount of flowers and buds? 2)Can you tell before 12/12 how many flowers will form on a branch, or is that determined by 12/12/environment? 3)When it comes to trimming off undergrowth, do you prune the small new brances that form early in or leave them alone? 4)In my 1st ebb and flow scrog, the plants are maturing much faster abd will be ready about two weeks ahead of schedule. Is this normal? I;d also like to pick your brain about other things as welol-sometime when we both have a little time. I really like your work and attitude. Thanks again woodsman. Tboner1
