Helps With Paxil Withdrawal

Okay, so I know withdrawaling from paxil isnt near the struggle of dealing with chemo, or any other more powerful drug. But, I have been taking paxil for almost a decade, and if you read about youd know that it is a much more terrible drug than most realize. I have begun to get off it, and I had terrible nausea, vertigo, dizziness, and a feeling of being disconnected from the world since trying to to get off it. But I found that marijuana helps me tremendously to deal with these symptoms that seem to affect my daily life. So I guess I posted this because I wanted other people in my situation to know that marijuana has helped me tremendously.

It is my understanding that when you stop taking paxil, you need to do it slowly. My mother was on paxil for quite a while, and when she tried to stop on a dime she started feeling sick, shaky, etc... I've heard that stopping without lowering your dosage before can put you in the hospital... Again, this is coming from my mother who has been there before, not any "official" knowledge of the drug.

Good luck to you either way.

I can attest to the withdrawal symptoms! I will tell you that Paxil is the worst to come off of as far as SSRIs are concerned. I've tried most of them - Paxil, Zoloft, Effexor, Wellbutrin, and Lexapro. And yes... if you are to stop taking Paxil, you need to do so in VERY small baby steps, each time. And you need to really allow two weeks between each step of cutting down. Get you a very good pill splicer and also make sure the doctor is informed of your effort to ween yourself off.

I can see where pot may help you in your endeavor, but only in short episodes. The THC/CBD will alter your seratonin levels for the hour to 2 hours you are high, but then you start feeling the brain zaps and vertigo, etc again. It's a struggle, but the best thing you can do is get off of Paxil - it'll turn you into a mindless zombie!

Totally, and I have been on the weening process for a couple weeks, and am slowly going on to prozac which is my understanding that it stays in ur system longer, making it easier to stop in the long run. I totally agree about the zombie thing though. Even being off it for a couple weeks and I feel I can atleast think better now.

BTW, awesome signature +rep just for that!!

I am glad you are getting off that garbage. You don't need it. Im glad you realize that they are just turning you into a slave to it.

Weed is the best thing, I think, when dealing with withdraws. For me, it takes my mind right off of everything.

Yes, I do believe that the pot is not only a fine replacement therapy for those withdrawing from other medications, it can also totally cure some types of extreme overdose. Yes. When I get home after a long extended family event, it straightens me right out! Try it! But I found that it actually will increase your tolerance of the same sorts of things. So I try to get loaded before such events, as well as after.

She's a versatile thing Cannabis sativa.

I was able to stop taking paxil, after I started taking Suboxone, with no problems at all. It seemed like the suboxone mimics the effects of the paxil be cause I had no withdrawal symptoms at all.

I do remember reading somewhere that suboxone has some anti-depressant effects.

i used to take paxil. most dosctors dont realize that their patients need to go off it much slower than usual. yes mj does help relieve it a lot, it did for me also. i would slowly go down to the lowest mg. then take it every other day. then every few days. whatever is most comfortable. paxil along with most SSRIs is a pretty safe drug but the withdrawls are so fucking annoying. actually its medically called discontinuation syndrome. the difference is a withdraw you not only physically feel the need for it, but also crave it. discontinuation syndrome you physically feel the need, but dont have cravings such as you would have cravings for cocaine or marijuana. if you can, see a psychiatrist, they specialize in medicine and can help properly get off medication. a regular physician, although educated in the field, probably wont know as much as a psychiatrist as far as pharmaceuticals.

also, i think zoloft is much better. lot less side effects. SSRIs are actually very helpful drugs. ever since taking zoloft, i've noticed i have very little anxiety and almost no panic attacks. its like a miracle drug for me. at higher doses i did feel some side effects like a little drowsiness but i also smoke weed all night after im done working. now im on a low dose and have less side effects, and still get very little anxiety. i can even actually concentrate better than when im not on it. im also generally in a better mood. it effects other people different, and im sure its not for everyone. but for me it's cheap and works great! dont let the media bullshit scare you. you can still drink alcohol on it too. im not a big drinker, but the few days i took it too far, the zoloft didnt seem to interact at all. it shouldnt make you suicidal either. those people that did commit suicide were probably suicidal before taking it. its not a bullshit drug and you are not a slave to it when taking it. its just not for everyone. some people are born with chemical imbalances. SSRIs simply help balance chemicals in your brain. people like me are more normal when on it. when i dont take it i get high anxiety and symptoms of panic disorder, difficulty eating and sleeping, even after smoking weed. i also get more short fused and aggressive. weed is great but doesnt nearly help me as much as zoloft.

I came of paxil by myself because of issues with the doc. The paxil was making me feel worse and the doc just thought i was hunting for drugs. I did kinda ween myself off of it by cutting pill in halfs and quarters but mary j helped the most. and for me personally when i have issues of syptoms that would get a doc to prescribe paxil, i can usually just deal with the issues using mmj. \
To the OP i feel for you, the symptoms you describe are very similar to what i experienced. wasn't fun
