Hempy Bucket Mix

So I had some seeds burning a hole in my pocket and decided to do another Hempy Bucket grow. This will be my first time starting from seed with this method. I will be vegging in 44oz Styrofoam cups under 4 foot, 4 bulb, T5 fluorescents. When they are 12-14" I will bog transfer to 2 gallon buckets and put under 600w HPS lights.

I will be using filtered well water and Ionic grow, bloom and boost nutrients.

10/13, I germinated 25 seeds. 5 Northern Lights, 5 AK48, 5 Cheese, 5 Haze X Skunk and 5 White Rhino.
10/16, planted the 24 seeds that had sprouted. 1 White rhino didn't sprout.
10/18, 23 of the 24 planted seeds had broken the surface. 1 dried up and died. The two casualties so far are a White Rhino seed (no germ) and a Haze X Skunk seed (germ'd seed dried up after planting).

23 sprouted seedlings from 25 seeds, that works for me.

Pics are from day 11, 10/27.

Thanks. I'm sorry about the pics. I don't know how to change the view. I didn't select for them to upload side by side it just did it. When I try to edit them, it shows them all vertically in the edit window...?

Anyway, If you are going to do Hempy I definitely recommend starting from clone. The first few weeks from seed with Hempy has been torturous. Growth is very slow. I wish I would have put the seeds in rockwool cubes to root and then transferred to HB.

For me its the same. The first weeks have been super slow, but it now looks like the roots have made their way to the res and they are taking off. Mine are lowryders under 24/0 though, so my stretch that im used too has been reduced.

GL! I'll be keeping an eye on this one. I really wish i had the room you do to grow. My closet is so jam packed i can barely fit my hand in it when the plants go to bloom.

Yeah it's a good sized grow area, it's a 1 car heated garage adjacent to my house. Here are a couple more pics of the back half of the room. Do you have a journal started?

Hi there, thanks for stopping by. I suppose I could flatten out the mylar, but should I? I've always thought that wrinkly mylar helped reflect light better than flat mylar...am I incorrect?

The first few weeks are slow but you will reap the benefits once the tap root hits the reservoir full of a nice small mixture of nutes. :hump:

Thanks Bone. I'm usually a bit more patient, but this is the slowest growth I've ever experienced. It's putting me to the test. I've got some 1/4 strength Ionic nutes in the rez, so when the roots get there, I hope the girls drink up and enjoy...

1 car garage! Nice idea. I have a 20x20 detached garage begging to be converted. :) We think alike. Mine has Natural Gas, and 30 amp service. I'd need at least running water, a drain and 200amp service. :blsmoke:

So what makes you think i have a journal on RUI? I don't even have an avatar yet. :bigjoint:

I didn't know if you had a grow journal. I seem to remember you posting a couple pics that's all.

detached garages work, but they are supposedly tougher to control temps and security. That's cool you have natural gas though, that's what I have going to my garage too.

I have running water via a shop sink in the side room between the house and the garage, super convenient. It's well water, which I'm not excited about, but I have it double filtered and I sit it out over night with an air pump and hose aerating the water

You don't have to have more juice to grow in your garage. My garage is on a 30amp fuse also, and it can handle 2, 1000 watt lights, 3 fans, heater/AC and 2, 4ft T5 fluorescents no problem. I'm using 600 watt lights for this grow though.

Very Nice! I am doing a Hempy'ish bucket :) 2 gallon bucket, Hydroton 2 inches for the reserve, then sunshine mix. Nice hole about 2 inches up, drains the overflow just right. I have 2 rollin right now. I have also done perlite and vermiculite mix.

Happy Halloween Update!

So today is day 15. Growth is still slow but noticeable. I am currently watering every 3 days and adding 1/2 strength Ionic grow nutes every other time I water. I will start adding 1 teaspoon of mollasses per gallon on my water only days starting this Saturday, the next time I water. A few of my seedlings are doing really well, and a few of my seedlings have rams horns leaves and/or yellowing tips. If any EXPERIENCED hempy growers have any positive or constructive feedback for me as this journal progresses, that would be very cool. Thanks!

Here are the new pics:

So, these are the ones I'm a little worried about. The first pic the seedling in question has really bad rams ears. The second seedling isn't growing and has brownish/yellow tips and rams ears. I know it's not the nutes b/c this was happening b4 I started nutes. I thought it could be the lights, so I raised them from 1" to 3", then from 3" to 6". My temp range so far has been 68-88f w/40-50% humidity. I PH my water/nutes to 6.0. I water every 3 days. Am I over/under watering? I do the finger test b4 watering, and have to go down about 2 inches to find a small amount of moisture usually. I'm using 4ft, 54w x 4 bulb, 5400k T5 grow fluorescents.

hey i just started a hempy bucket and i'm having the same rams ear problem. if you figure out why, i'd love to know. i like the look of your set up, seems simple but looks bound to work! :blsmoke:

When I had that problem, I figured I either had the lights too close or the temperature too high. Fixing those two caused them to correct themselves over time.

I grow Hempy and personally I don't feed my plants nutes when they are that small.... although I do add a couple drops of Superthrive to the water.

I start my seeds in starter plugs and then when well rooted put into the Perlite/Coco mix. I am finding that I need to cool my water before feeding as warmer water going in promotes fungus growth on the roots. My first grow went beautifully with cooled water.... but on my second grow I got lazy and tired of putting the frozen water bottles in the water bucket..... big mistake... I'm now fighting off root rot.

If you are brave.... dig down around the roots of one of the struggling plants and see if they are nice healthy and white.... or if they are dingy and starting to turn brown. If they are starting to turn brown then you've found your problem. :blsmoke:
