Hempy Bucket Mixes

I want to start a hempy bucket for my next grow. What are some good mixes people have tried and were very successful with? (E.g. Chunky perlite bottom layer with coco/vermiculite mix on top) I ask because most hempy bucket instructions i see only use coco/perlite or perlite/vermiculite mixes.

Here are some stuff i would like to know if it could also work for bottom layer:
1. Hydroton
2. Lava Rock
3. Pea Gravel
4. River Rock
5. Medium Size Lime Stone
6. Large Glass Marbles
7. Marble Stones

Hey screedi...im in the process of getting as much info as I can about growing in hempy buckets aswell ..from what I gathered up and checking grow logs..the best method iv seen..3 or 5 gallon buckets 60% coco40%perlite..and hydroton just covering the 2" hole so about 2 half inches at the bottom ...and the nutes were CNS 17 hydro nutes ..they were some impressive plants ..i am definitely changing over from soil as soon as im finished this grow ...the member is .....feroce ....he is on riu..but I was following his hempy grow in the hydro section on opengrow....hope this helps...scarecrow77

It probably will help but was hoping for experienced people that have tried different things as to get as much input as possible from different aspects. Maybe if we get enough input we could make this a hempy bucket sticky lol.

Hey screedi..the only medium iv seen used is ..straight coco ..coco perlite ..straight perlite..perlite 80%vermiculite 20%..and only some use the hydroton at the bottom and others use perlite at the bottom ..i to am curious if there are other methods...i will be changing over in about 2 months so iv plenty time to get information....scarecrow77

Wow im surprised nobody else has any input on this.
Ive grown in 100% perlite and soil with perlite its all the same shit just holds water diff u need water 5 times as much with 100% perlite hempy bucket dont think it would matter as its just a res in a pot really u can only water till the hole on side its not gonna matter

Hey screed .the grow I was looking at he watered every 3to4days he was using coco 80 percent and perlite 20 percent and hydroton on the bottom 2 half inches just cover the hole..it's the same as soil I think with just more control over feeding ..better yeilds and faster growth.coco and the hydroton hold water a lot longer than anything else I've seen..I'm going with the medium I just mentioned.if there where better ways of doing it I'm sure someone would have mentioned it...the woman that started using this method of growing back in the sixties tryed almost every thing you could think of and the only real successes she had was growing in perlite .now she uses straight coco I think..scarecrow

I would recommend for your first hempy to go with 3:1 perlite/vermiculite as it's very forgiving

personally I have tried straight perlite but it requires more frequent waterings

I also soil cap my hempy's....not a common practice but has value

hi sun king would you explain why perlite would be more forgiven than coco..would.nt coco be more like growing in soil over perlite..and what value does soil on top do for you in hempy buckets ..im willing to try what ever works and go with the easiest of them...thanks .....scarecrow77
