Here come the catapillars

Reading this thread is making me nervous. Are worms/catepillars basically unavoidable in Nor Cal if one hasn't done any preventive measures for them? I haven't done any pest preventive actions with the exception of dealing with mites and aphids. I at least have another 3~4 weeks to go.

I have had them every year... Do you ever see any butterflies or moths flying around your ladies?... if you have then trust me you have caterpillars.

It's part of dealing with the outdoors. You will have to deal with critters.

This year is my first grow in a long time. They are chowing down on my indicas but my sativas are ok. Go figure.

Pic them off. Don't get too crazy on the sprays. You will lose some herb from them but if you overspray crap on all your nugs then all your nugs could...could suck.

Pic them off. It's a little late in the season for some cure all to come along.

My first few days I dug through every crevis. Slowly things got better. Now I scan them once a day and pull off babies that haven't done shit.

thats about it... sums up everyones past 2 weeks....LOL

On my late blooming bush that is looking like a Halloween harvest, I cut off nice and clean the tops that got eaten. They grew back cause she's still growing...sort of. But it's not like a hole is there.

In 40 days I wont know where I cut that shit off is what I'm saying. So if you have a late bloomer cut off the dead stuff and maybe you could grow out of it like this one plant I have.

Right now I think everyone is just making sure a summers worth of work is not ruined by anything preventable.

Try spraying your fingers with PAM cooking spray. Resin melts right away. PAM washes off easily.

Works good for cleaning your scissors at harvest time too!:weed:

So far (knock, knock) this screen barrier has worked. If you can figure out a way to hang some of this screen around your plants, you can keep most of the bugs at bay. I haven't had to spray for caterpillars yet!

Good luck everybody, fight on!

P.S.
Can you hear my plants inside there talking? "Grandmaw, what are caterpillars?":-P
Yes Yes Yes, You are so right. cover your plants and don't worry about Moths laying eggs on your buds. Heres a cheap little cover up if this helps>

TFG, for are those White Widows of some type? They have that look. As with everything I do, it turns out good (arrogance? :) ) . I'm always pleased. The "could have been" factor always kicks in. My little White Berry Indicas got hammered. I think with a cheap screen that they easily would have fit into the buds, flavor and over all quality would be much higher.

I say flavor cause I hit them a little heavy with BT. Lesson learned. I say quality because I've got serious cola's that will taste great but to the eye they will not look as fantastic as they could have. So many factors in measuring your final product and appearance clearly matters.

sure sure.. But i dont see mold from the ruined shit.... it seems like the cat-poop kinda burns that area... you say that is mold? ... i guess i would have to at least cut those pieces out.... but i have never seen it to be mold...you know white/gray hairy shit?

:o....last year i smoked most of it and just "tried" to take the poop out breaking it on a white plate first... shit.

I just want to add that Ive been using a compressor and a blow gun regulated down to 15- psi and I blow that shit right outa the buds..

Ok, so, I've got a full shop at the pad. My bud loss will not be do to what they ate but rather their fucking turds dude.

I never thought about it, but I could just give them a blast of my compressor. Hmmm.

I might bring up the pin gun nailer compressor and snap off a few burst of air on my plants tomorrow. First harvest of the season on plants that got shit on pretty good. I might get them clean enough to make edibles.

I don't have a regulator but could keep the compressor constantly releasing air in order to keep her down to oh...60psi :)

The 2 Plants covered with white Mosquito screen are clones off a kush plant of mine. . Its been 5 weeks since finding the first caterpillar on my other uncovered exposed plants, I sprayed Safer Caterpillar Killer once only on them when the plants were 2nd week into flower. I didnt spray any more. I check plants every day. I am intersepting the moth eggs before they hatch :) It takes a while but buds looking pretty good now! 6 weeks into flowering.Check out an egg I got the other day

All too familiar. But part of the process.

well I have been plucking away for the last 3 weeks, harvested a few and in my dishwasher(https://www.rollitup.org/grow-room-design-setup/237094-dishwasher-drying.html I dry then in a old dishwasher in garage with an exahust fan out) when I open it up I see then bunging out of the bud to find moisture. I bet they are supprised when they think they are getting away in the night..I catch em n squish em. Its nice to see that they get the hell out of dodge when you cut them. Anyone ever have any trouble after drying with the lil buggers or do the just run away?

<sigh> Yup...found 2 caterpillars on one of my girls. Found evidence of some on another (leaves partially eaten). These two are now quarantined from the rest of the garden. <sigh> One of them fortunately is an indica and is about to get chopped down next week or so. A little early but it also has mold so I'm going to give her a week of daily deligence/maintenance and she's going down. The other, a sativa, still has 4 more weeks at the minimum . <sigh>

These 2 that I found were not in my buds/flowers though...I caught them munching away at the leaves. Same difference right (budworms /caterpillars)?

Im at war with these fuckers right now...lots of lil ones, that are light green or milky white...
I havent been cutting the infected areas though, very little poop, Ive been just wiping it off, and picking lil bits that are bad...but all the caterpillars ive found are really little...and are on only one plant that is furthest in flowering, anyways, they fucking suck.

Found a couple more today. Luckily I only have 3 that are effected and they have been quarantined. <sigh> I'm not seeing any in my buds but just a few leaf damage. What I have been doing is clip away the partially eaten leaves and check back in 1/2 hour or so and do a quick scan. Usually when I see a partially eaten leaf (again) the bastard is underneath munching away. Can't believe I might have to do this everyday for the next 3 or so weeks....:blsmoke:

At first that damage looks like a grasshopper. I have no leaf damage just nug damage.

Wanna trade damage? :blsmoke:

does the poop alone cause rot and mold? Ive had only lil caterpillars, and very lil damage or and tiny lil spec poops lol cuz ive been catchin em early before they get big...but I didnt get every last lil bit of poop...very tiny specs...should I be worried?

fdd says the poop can get moldy if it gets wet. So stay away from heavy spraying and Autumn rain. Other than that, I would just pick them off. They didn't eat as much as I thought they would on an early harvest of two plants. The poo was the biggest problemo man.

little cock suckers. i think they get high as hell eating our weed up.. i seen a few on the sun flowers by my girl and i had fun killing them... i hope they dont come get my girl but just in case... i be ready.. i bought some Fox Farms 'Dont Bug Me" brand spray.. safe during flowering, just use after sun goes down... works for all pests (in my area)
