Since RIU seems to be famous for conversations regarding hermanpherdite cannabis plants and at anyone time there may be two or three posts on the first page regarding them. Most times I just shake my head, but occasionally I'll join the fun and offer my oppinion or sometimes just stir the pot. In my oppinion a hermanpherdite cannabis plant (a 100% sure hermie) that self polinates itself is going to give birth to a shit ton of offspring that will all carry the hermie trait. I'm not saying that every single seed is going to herm likes it's mother did, but the trait still exists even though it's remained dormant. It's like powdery mildew; if one part of your plant has it but the rest looks clean it's a mistake to assume that only the visibly affected areas are affected. Not true, it's in the plants cell system and will remain their till it's death. So is a plant that has shown PM on parts of it, but clean on the rest and clean to the eye now, is it a non PM plant? I still consider it a PM contaminated plant and deal with it accordingly. Same goes with hermie offspring, just because I can't see nanners doesnt mean it's not a hermie or will hermie, it just means the hermie trait is at the time dormant. Again this is just my opinion.
So back to another unique point that not too many people understand completely. I was a professional salmon and steelhead fishing guide in Oregon and Washington state. When fishing for salmon or steelhead it's always an extra bonus when you get to catch a couple of hens (female fish) because not only do you get thier meat but you also get to harvest and cure their eggs for future fishing trips. Obviously the bucks (males) don't produce eggs and only produce milt sacks which are no good for bait or anything else I know of. When you clean a female fish next to a male fish you can always tell the difference in quality of meet regardless of freshness (for the most part). The bucks will always have a darker red meat that's firmer to the touch and more flavorful. The females meat will always be lighter in color, more of a pink than red and will be slightly more mushy than the firm bucks meat. The reason being is because the female fish puts a lot of its energy into producing eggs for reproduction and not on it's meat quality by packing on extra fat cells. So now back to hermies and how this all ties together...
So it's safe to say that the herb grown today is far superior to herb grown 30 years ago. 30 years ago most if not all herb had seeds in it, not a couple but a lot of seeds. This was just the norm and the herb was ok so nobody complained too much. Then the word sensimelia came about and eveyone wanted to have herb that was seedless. Well as the industry learned how to rid it's herb of seeds the quality began to improve too. Now a days almost all the herb around is free of seeds and is fairly potent. It take a lot of the plants energy to produce seeds for reproduction and that's energy that could be put towards other places such as resin and oil production. After all where are the seeds most commonly found in buds? In the swollen calyxes of course. Well what's inside of those calyxes if seeds aren't? Sugars, oils, and resins! So when the plant is producing seeds it's also using up all of those sugars and energy sources to make them seeds which results in your buds lacking those oils come harvest time. It's that way with anything that reproduces offspring, you won't see a 7 month prego chick doing hair shoots for Pantene becuase the baby is wrobbing all the calcium that the moms hair needs to look its best. Does any of this make sense?
I just hate people saying yeah your hermie plant will produce great meds but with a lot of seeds too... If that's what people consider great meds, idk what the fuck I've been growing. I will post a picture of a nug shot that is one of our oilyest strains to date. I'm not posting it to brag I'm posting it to see if anyone who has grown out a hermie plant has ever harvested buds with this much oil production. I know there are other growers that grow herb as oily as mine without seeds so yeah... anyone ever seen Komas grows on youtube? Koma is another neighboring Oregon grower that throws down the frosties! Anyways hopefully this clears somethings up. When you think you have the super poop and it's full of seeds, think again what that would have been like seedless... Just Saying!
