Hi gang, been checking out the forums for a bit now, wanted to say hi and i have a question. First my setup, 2x3x5 grow room with cheap mylar, 6" circulating fan, 6" duct fan pulling from the top, 6 plants in tall 3 gallon pots(topsoil, perlite), 2 105 watt cfl's in worklight reflectors, 60% relative humidity and 82 degrees.

went through a couple noob problems, to much water, not enough nutes, but looking decent now. plants are 3 weeks old with a fair amount of foilage.

so here's my question, i have checked faq's and didn't find anything. how far should the the 105w cfl's be above the plants? i see a lot of people have 25watts about 3-4 inches, i currently have them about 8".

thanks in advance, nice to be working on my first grow.

Cfls in general are to cool to burn, the closer the better, try to cool it down a couple of degrees to 78-80 is optimal, 82 is not bad just not perfect. As far as the lights go, the plants will stretch to much if the lights are far away, and the light spectrum of your lights are not as effective from a nutritional standpoint at that range, 1-3 inches is good, you will need to adjust you lights alot. good luck

they go up to 300 watt maybe even higher now. Some are sell ballasted and some are not. you just have to shop around

:weed:I have a 400 watt HPS that was built in 1996 and still running great! I bought a new CFL 105 Watt EcoPlus for 59.95 along with a Bright Wing reflector for 35.95 = $96 + tax. I was starting up a new grow and wanted a backup to my hps. I also use several 4ft shop flors with combo of cool white and a warm light tube. My grow did so well I ended up having to hanf my back up CFL to finish the budding! The only thing that ever failed was my timer and luckly in the off position, so they got a little sleep in time. I now keep HID lights on a timer for each and only use multiple lights on a timer if they a flor. The grow was way beyound my my wildest dreams. The CFL work fair. Sense then I have added two more 400 watt MH HIDs with econoreflectors and each with ballast, reflector and bulb only cost me about $75 more than the CFL system. But I wouldn't give up my CFL for anything, it is so veritile and I always have a backup.
Hope I am posting correctly?
