they look good but a bit short to be flowering.

look alright for a first grow. I would say its more the larger the plant the larger the harvest will be per plant. that doesnt mean thats the best way, you can do many smaller plants in the same area and get a similar harvest overall. i think those plants should fill in the full area fine. really i think its more of a personal choice on which you prefer.

They look great, but i would have let them grow a little bigger before flowering. Some of them have already produced bud. Plants will probably not stretch much, so you would probably have made more bud if you let them become bigger first.

They look really healthy and great for your first grow. The general rule of thumb is to let the plants get to at least 12" before flowering or 3-4 weeks of vegetation. But as darkdestruction420 said, it's really a matter of personal choice. You can let the plants get bigger in veg for a bigger harvest or grow many small plants and wind up with about the same harvest.

I would say you are right on track, my friend. Nice job.

What kind of light are you using? I think you are using an HPS judging from the pics, and probably a 600w light. You should keep that light about 20"-24" from the canopy at all times, unless you use a light diffuser. Then you can get the lights closer.

What you want to do when getting ready for harvest is to look at the plants trichomes to judge when they are ready for harvest. When 50% of the trichs are cloudy, then you can harvest. If you go longer than that you will get a different high from the plants, which is usually couch-lock. When you harvest is really what kind of high you are looking for, an up high vs. a couch-lock high.
