Hello actionbone,
google : hlg-240h-c1400 test report

some of this drivers have higher CURRENT ADJ. RANGE. In the test report they say CURRENT ADJ. RANGE is: 0.542A - 1.625A

So if i calculate now(calculations are not 100% exact):

1,625 A * 35,4 V = 57,525 Watt
57,525 Watt * 5 (5*cobs) = 287,625 Watt
287,625 Watt / 0,94(driver efficiency) = 305,98 Watt

Maybe your driver has even a bit more then 1,625A

I had a similar problem with the HLG240-H48B, it was super hot and was drawing way over the 8%. I was able to add the dimmer and it went back to around 250 watts. Is your driver A,B,or C? If it is B try another pot. The cheaper pots are inconsistent. If it is the A, dial it back until you are less than 8% over 250.
