I have a grow room in basement, I went down to check soil during light time and no lights. I unpluged from timer to rule that out. Plug into wall and ballast came on but not light. UGHH I am 5 weeks into flowering on some pretty ladies. It is cold in basement so I run 10/14 at night. the plants are so big I can not move them tonight I know such a girl anyway should I put a heater in there. I will probably be able to go get a new set up of light tomorrow. What should I do till then?? Any Ideas I can not lose this crop. thanks all

How cold can a basement get? Mine never drops below 50, and if yours is the same, let them sit in the extended dark and you'll be fine. When you're able, get those lights running and restart 12/12.

Good luck.

I do not think it gets below 50 just freaking I was with them last night and they pretty counting down weeks to harvest. This is my first time and it has been a process, thought my only worry was making sure I harvest right. Thanks I am calm now.

Good on you.

I remember those days, first harvest. Really savor this time, enjoy it. Like virginity, it only happens once.

So you know, trimming leaf only gets to be a bigger and bigger PITA as you get to be a more experienced, better grower. You'll love it in a few weeks, though :D

Always have a spare bulb...don't know what happened but did you unplug and plug real fast? You must wait for the bulb to cool down before re-plug or it can burn out. (around 30 mins)

It was on a timer so I went down to look when lights were supposed to be on. Thought the timer was bad so I plugged them into a socket. When I get a new bulb should I stop using timer? I went down this am and plug it in to see and nothing ballast seems to be running but no light. I am going to get a new bulb today to start there.

I can relate im kinda new to hid lighting bought a cooltube got so erect off the first grow i got that i never thoguth to ask about my hps bulb so now 4 weeks into flower i ask because i thought i noticed a change in the bulb(thought i was nuts to be honest) turns out that after a few harvests)6-8 its alwasy a good idea to change em out and i like the advice of ALWAYS HAVE A SPARE BULB. Tis me and the wife's mantra now. Hortilux has served me well so i will share a lil tidbit bestowed upon me from the forums here, when using a hps bulb (600watt in my case), you can check the tubeinside the bulb and see if there's black starting on either end thats the sign to look for when the ole bulb is starting that downward decline im told. Just thought id share and say we all learn somehow!

Yeah, even a cheap $20 home depot special (400 hps) will work for a day or two until you can replace it with the desired bulb.

Thanks all I got a new bulb and a spare. I do not know if I should leave it on now or wait till 7 and start the 12/12 for some reason I was told that week 5 turn it to 10/14 but what I read here it should be 12/12. I looked at my babies and they seem no worse for all the stress they put me through. :).

I just bought a new timer myself. The light I got had one but it's really crappy and frankly I don't trust it. lol. I got one and it didn't work. They sent me another and this one is working, but it's very cheap, so I'll be damned if my plants die because of a shitty timer. Just got that in the mail today and will change that out tonight after lights out. I'm also planning on getting a couple extra bulbs too. I'd rather have a bulb die and have a spare I can easily plug in rather than not have one and the plants suffer because I don't have a light.
