High Output fluorescent lights

are HO lights worth spending the extra money on?

i'd like to get some fluorescents for a small veg box. just for clones/seeds/mothers.
i was considering this from home depot for $20

but i also saw this at HTG and it seems better, but i don't know if i can justify spending 2x the amount.

Yes, the HO lights are much better then the regular ones. I have a mixture of T8 regular output and T5HO and the T5HO lights make the T8 look pathetic. Now I run my T8 bulbs at 54 watts and they are comparable to the T5HO.

At my local home Depot they sell a brand called Utilitech, they are 4 foot 2 bulb T8 fixtures. They cost 12-13 dollars each, buy 2 of these and research over driving a rapid start ballast. Each fixture has a ballast that is made to run 2 bulbs at 32 watts. You can make 1 ballast run 1 bulb at 54 watts or roughly 1.7x32watts. Its fairly simple and it is cheaper then a 1 bulb 4' T5HO.

I am flowering with my over driven T8 setup with decent results so far.
