Holy hashbuckets it works!

Someone recently posted a video about making hash using dry ice. I finally got hold of some and got to try the method. Holy crap! I would say it's like 3 times easier than ice and water, and yields 5 times more. Ok, I pulled those numbers out of the air but they are not exaggerations.
I didn't intend to lay out the method here but it's really simple. Put weed and dry ice chunks in bucket, shake. Put 220 micron bag over bucket, shake out like a salt shaker. Scoop up your hash and press if desired. Enjoy!

I've used it once and really liked it. It does freeze the leaf so if you shake very hard you end up with leaf material broke up in you hash.

Yeah, not easy to come by here either. I know of only one place within say 50 miles and it is about 20 miles from me.

Funny story: I had never bought it before so I go to this place and ask for some. Your typical old geezer Mainah sitting at his desk. Not knowing what a pound of dry ice looks like, I asked what size container for 5 or 10 lbs. He asked what I plan to do with it, I guess to help me decide how much to buy. I was somewhat prepared for the question, and said something about the party stuff they describe on their web site. Then he grins and says "oh..I thought you might want to make some hash." I burst out laughing and admitted it of course. Evidently there has been an uptick in business with the new MMJ law here LOL

it's hard to get around here, too. i found an ice company that does ice sculptures and supplies ice to businesses and whatnot and they have dry ice.
i need to work on an excuse for when they ask me what i want it for.
i called to get price info and he asked what it was for and i panicked and said, "uh, i'm gonna play with it?". DON'T say that lol. he gave me a big lecture about the dangers and blah blah blah.

my 160 bag and press just got here so i plan on giving this a go within the next week. i really can't wait. i have 2 years worth of hearty popcorn made up of around 11 different strains. it's going to be glorious.

edit: i just opened the package and the way the press was packaged literally had me laughing out loud for 3 solid minutes. it was ever so carefully placed atop a bed of satin in a nice box. hilarious.

I've found a good way to divert suspicion is to say that I just found out that two-liter soda bottles are a perfect fit inside mailboxes. cn

How is it hard to come by? Are you sure you're just not aware of it's presence in stock? It's usually not out for you to get yourself. They keep it in the back and only bring it out when requested. I have a hard time believing it's so prevalent here, but other areas of the country have no dry ice suppliers. I'm sure people use dry ice in your area.

Dry ice is almost as difficult to find as butane. Check every grocery store in your area, Meijer's in the midwest has it but none in MN. Check every liquor store, they don't usually carry it...but most owners know where to buy it b/c their beverage vendors buy it.

Dry Ice hash rocks, you can quick heat press the kief into hash using a low oven temp...if anyone is interested let me know and I'll post the process.

in cali it's prevalent because wineries use it in production. in industrial areas it's used for welding and such. my area has no such demand for the stuff, so supermarkets and the like don't carry it.
however an ice supplier will ALWAYS have it. as you pointed out, someone is in fact filling the local demand because dry ice is only manufactured locally. you can't really ship loads of it a long way.

Dry ice is commonly used for special effects in theater/plays etc...lol...good excuse. Also, you can store it the freezer for up to about 24 hours...then it reverts back to gas and evaporates.

I don't know a lot about it, but they advise not to put it in the freezer. It is so cold already that it will simply cause your freezer not to run. And, I believe it will sublimate (turn into gas) at pretty much the same rate as if you just kept it in a cooler.

It isn't going to last for days in any case. Just put it in a cooler, try and fill air space with crumpled newspaper. If your cooler latches, do not latch it. Sublimation will build up pressure and it could be dangerous. Also be aware that while not poisonous, having a lot of dry ice in an enclosed space will eventually replace all the oxygen with carbon dioxide. Not likely, I know. Just be aware.
