Home Remedies for Fungus Gnats?

Yea, It's not an " Infestation " But i have noticed a few here and there, when adjusting my lights or when im watering.

When i keep the fan on the plants, they dont seem to stick around, mostly just flying about the grow room.

I know its probably not a good choice to make, but i'd really like to just give them new soil all together, but im afraid of transplanting them now, since they have been sharing the same pot, i know some of their roots have probably already met beneath the soil, and i dont want to risk damaging the roots whatsoever.

The Garlic seems to help a little bit repelling the pests away, At least it did for the first 2 days.

I left the fan off for 2 days, just to see if the garlic was doing anything, and i didnt notice them flying around the plants or soil, but definitely a few up in the air here and there.

@.@ only issue i have now is the bugs in my house lol...Im not sure what they are, they resemble beetles of some kind, and dont seem to be hurting my plants, but every few days, ill find one laying on the top of the soil.
( Im gonna be trying that method people always talk about, grinding up dried bugs, put the powder in a spray bottle and squirt the top of the soil and around the pots the plants are in. )

Hopefully...These plants will make it...I seem to be doing fairly well tackling all of these sudden problems.

you shouldn't have multiple plants in the same pot, they will all be smaller then if they had their own pot and some may kill each other. I know I don't like sharing my pot as much as I like having pot all to myself, im sure plants feel the same way

Best way to deal with gnats is don't get 'em in the first place. A lot of times gnats are a sign of overwatering. Let your dirt dry out more between waterings. Also you can put a shallow dish of soapy water out for them, which will kill adults. There's a lot of ways to control or eliminate the little SOBs, so be glad you got gnats not spider mites or mealy bugs.

We shall see :c

The pot itself ( i still have no clue how big it is, but it's pretty big... i think 6-8 gallons maybe?

The plants are spaced out far enough from each other, and when i planted them, i cut the SOLO cups vertically, so i could just stick that cup/cone of soil they were sprouted in directly into the holes i dug for each plant.

And like i've been saying, Im okay with small plants, im okay with small yields, this was just something to do during the fall/winter.

and HEY!, :D im doing pretty well so far! At least, i'd like to think so. :D Only 2 of the original 7 died ( And that was my own fault )

I'll grow them the best i possibly can, And if i can pour more money into more pots, more lights, and some bloom nutes for flowering, i think i'll do fairly well :D

@.@ Yea...id rather have gnats than spider mites, thrips, or mealy bugs

They seem pretty healthy ( Minus some minor burns on the tips of the leaves from the lights being too close ).

The only thing im curious about now, is pruning.
When is it Okay to prune off dying, burnt, or sickly leaves?

Anytime you want, basically. I'd wait until they are completely dry just so all the nutrients from the leaves get reabsorbed, but really it won't matter a great deal. Just be sure not to take off too many healthy leaves.

Well the plants are still pretty young, About a 30-35 days old ( Cant remember exactly which day i planted them )

So i was unsure if pruning would throw them into shock at such a young age in their cycle.

marijuana plants are a bit more hardy than you seem to think.
hydrogen peroxide is wonderful for overwatered plants because the roots still get oxygen and if it kills bugs too then thats an extra bonus.
i water my plants with 50-50 3% hydrogen peroxide/water and they are doing wonderfully.
so you have 5 plants in a 6-8 gallon pot?
when they get bigger they might get rootbound and die :/
i have one plant on a 5 gallon tub.
you can prune up to the last week or two before you flip to flower and then no pruning in flower.
idea is that you dont want them to be stressed at all in flower.
pics would be dope :)
good luck!

also 30-35 days is not "young" for the plant.
1-7 days is young for the plant lol.
people start topping, bending, breaking branches at a couple weeks old!
plants are pretty forgiving as long as you're not putting stupid shit like bleach in the soil lol!

Well i have it in my head that i need to treat the plants as if their fragile glass, yuh know?
I keep reading all about not letting the plants get too stressed, and i mean, its only natural of me to think of my plants that way.
I'm so use to doing outdoor grows, where i go out maybe 2-3 times a week to my spot, and check on everything. And i've never really had a problem with pests, bad nutes, or anything before.
( One of the gentlemen at the dispensary i use to frequent was the one who had set everything up for me with my outdoor growing, and it was all really straight forward )
And after joining this forum, im finding out all this new information ive never even heard of before.

And it propelled me into wanting to try CFL's with an indoor grow, since from what ive been reading seems like a very hands off grow.

You can check pics here.

I also have a grow journal for these babies.

https://www.rollitup.org/grow-journals/728816-chroniks-first-indoor-grow.html

So go ahead and check them out, and if you have any sort of tips or help to offer, its greatly appreciated.

Now, i guess my only concern is the " Rootbound " issue.

If a few of the roots were to snap, or break when re-transplanting these, would the plant die? Or would the non-broken roots still provide enough life for the plants to recover?

I clip off dead or dying leaves without hesitation. They are providing little or nothing to the plant.

If you use dunks I found I had to let a piece of dunk sit in the water I am using to water the plants, for a day or so. Then water the plants and reuse the dunk in this way for a few for rounds. Breaking the dunk up and mixing it into the soil did not work.

If I see a gnat buzzing around I kill it by clapping my hands together on it. I do this all the time reflexively. Have not had problems with gnats since I took this no tolerance policy.

Gnats are mostly just a nuisance and it takes a shitload to mess up your grow. I kill them relentlessly but that is not a vital concern. If you really let them take over they can stall out your plant, but you would see a cloud of them all the time before that would happen.

The soap thing works too, a few drops in your water and if you hit all the soil in the pot you will get the babies after a few times of this.
