homebox L and venting (and odor)

Hey gang,

I am currently veggin 6 plants under CFL and they seem to be doing just great. They are in my basement where the temp is anywhere between 76 and 80 degrees.

For flowering, I think I am going to go with a 400 hps and a homebox L. I am thinking there will also be a temp problem but something seems odd to me.

I can get a HPS with a cooltube which I understand will keep the temp low. I understand how that works so I am cool there.

The tent however is going to start to smell, so do I have another out exhaust connected to a carbon filter (to prevent the smell)?

I indend to use inline fans (noise is not an problem but odor may be) so I figured:

1 inline fan 4" for the cooltube hps light, this will send fresh air to the lamp and out the other end, hot air, outside the tent
1 inline intake for the tent
1 exhaust for the tent connected to a carbon filter.

Am I thinking this one correct?

I'm using a Homebox L with a 400w HPS and here's my advice:

-ditch the cooltube. just get a parabolic reflector.
-get a 6" inline fan with a carbon filter.
-No need for intake fans, just keep the side flaps of the Homebox open and the pressure from the extractor fan will suck in cool air.
-Get a small clip-on fan to keep air circulating within the room as well as to toughen up stems.

check my thread out:

With the side flaps open, do you have any odor issues? This seems much easier!!!

Thanks, going check ur thread out.

ya check this out... at htgsupply the have a really good 6" blower and charcoal filter combo (which i currently have) you get a really nice 6" blower and filter,,,

inside your tent you definately want a cool tube setup place your filter on one side of your light with ducting from your filter to your light then on the other side have the ducting come from your light to your blower pushing air outside the tent.. you want to suck the air through your filter and from your light... here i'll post a pic of my setup so you get a better idea...

now on the tent, leave 2 of the bottom flaps open for a forced air intake and you actually only have to use one of the 6" holes at the top to vent out... lol just look at the pic haha

no major odor problems at all. It smells just a little bit when you enter the room where the Homebox is placed, but that's it.

picture is worth 1000 words. I get it now....

carbon filter (with fan) sucks up odor air (and blows through cooltube) and out the tent so outside there is hot, not stinkin air...

I seen a couple of those carbon filters on ebay for $80 which I may cop with an inline fan. Was debating on the cooltube. My ambient temp in there is high 70's (it is the basement but where my water tank and all that other crap is at so it can get warm. Plus I am no where near a window (unless i roll out say 15' of duct above the dropped ceiling)

thanks for the pic, that explains everything.

they can and tend to when you flower so it is advisable to get some kind of odor control. depends on the strain on how much is smells and as for a fan, keeps things cooler unless you got temps under control.
