Just curious if anyone else is messing around with this.Super easy and cheap to make if you can get passed the smell.Id love to hear ideas on it or how to make it better.I know you can get a gallon fairly cheap but when you have nothing to begin with this is that much easier especially when you go through as much fish as I do.I just got finished with my first batch and cant wait to use it.

I just wouldn't use that shit indoors....:spew: but outdoors might be ok as long as you don't got racoons and shit digging around your garden but fuck brewing that shit anyway I'm happy with chemical nutes and that shit would make me.......:spew:

I am definitely going ice fishing this winter and saving all the fish scraps! Itll save me $13 and itll also save me from buying a prepackaged product which I know is watered down. Will this stuff burn your your plants easily?

I imagine it could just like anything else with too much.Im gunna mess around w/ 2 TBLS per gallon mixed with some kepl at first and check ppm on it before I use it and go from there.Ice fishing huh.....ive done some of that in northern california around tahoe and donner and thats some good times if your bundled up good.Cold water fish ive read is the best for this type of thing so you should be alright.I cracked open a jug of that Alaska Fish Emulsion at the store the other day and it smells nothing like mine lolz so im not sure but your right about them putting in other things that may make that product better or worse depending how you look at it I guess.Either way mad luck on your project and stick some PIGS for me!!!

Your so welcome....Im hoping someone has done or is doing this kind of thing and will chime in.I know it smells bad but I just cant seem to justify throwing away all my fish scraps away when it can be fairly easily turned into a usable product and being the broke mf that I am I fill im killing two fish with one hook ;)

I used the muskie fish emulsion and it was great, but like all companies, brands and products, the real thing is better. LESS IS MORE lol. Like Charmin TP.

Got a mesg with some good info to share.

"Commercially made fish fertilizer is made from scraps to include flesh scraps, guts, heads, small bones and skins. The fish guts are steamed so as to make the scraps break up easily. The mash is put in a press. The liquid is fish oil and fish liquid. The solids are made into animal feed. The oil is seperated and further refined to make fish oil, The remaining liquid is concentrated by cooking of most of the water. Phosphoric acid is ued to lower the pH. Typically you end up with about 5% nitrogen, 2% phosphorus and 2% potassium. Salt warer fish produce stronger fertilizer than fresh water fish. oldaaer"

Wow,this really puts it in to perspective and kinda fills in some of the missing gaps of information ive wondered about. So there are some steps to further refining on a commercial level of which I cant and dont want to do.Now that I know this, what do I have down stairs lolz and is it a useable product.Ive noticed that it is still decomposing because I have to let the gas out every few days still where as if you go buy a jug of fish emulsion of the shelf it does not so this.I wonder how long this will occur for.It is settling though inside the gallon jug im using and you can clearly see the oil at the bottom which is minute to the lighter frothy stuff on top.
Im prolly gunna let it age a while and let it decompose more in its jug until spring time when I can start using it outside in my garden where I can do a side by side.

I decided to go ahead and begin testing out fishmo on my outdoor garden and am seeing positive results so far.

I have 2 raised beds and 1 container. The container & 1 raised bed gets covered the other does not (yet). It gets in the low 30's here at night and even hit the teens a cpl times. In the covered raised bed I have butter lettuce, spinach, garlic and lots of little dill sprouts from a plant I let to go to seed.

In the other bed I just have Broccoli. These plants came from the same pack that my container plants came from.

Now my container broccoli,BIG BIG difference. One thing I know is it gets covered but the other is these plants get the fishmo.I wont use this on the leafy stuff due to possible unpleasant tastes and will cut back on the broccoli once into flower but pretty kewl so far and it hasnt killed them lolz!
