Horizontal growing

Hi! I’m pretty new but I’ve got a setup where I’m trying to grow like this…8C8178D3-F6CC-40C8-8B7D-8AF564E9509D.jpeg

… they’re still in veg at the moment but how do I get the colas to grow like that in flowering? Is that just pruning and de-foliaging as they grow?

thanks in advance!

It will be a lot of cropping, tying, pruning, defoliation, etc. It will take time! Your concept drawing seems to be a variant of supercropping. It is also reminiscent of bonsai. High-stress training.

I don't go that extreme. I just bend it when it gets 5 nodes at the 3rd and remove 1&2. Then keep pulling and stretching.

The nodes along the main branch will grow upwards and stretch once they get switched to bloom (12/12 hours of light). The goal is going to be keeping that main branch as flat and even as possible so 1 node doesn't dominate the others. It's a similar practice to Mainlining just a more Low Stress method. I'm assuming you have a low ceiling issue or fast deadline to meet?

Check out my summer 2021 outdoor grow for extreme horizontal training…milk crate and a wooden dowel. Bent them over at a young age, and ran the main stalk horizontally along the dowel. Coaxed other branches out into the light during the process…good yield, large rock hard buds, and a fun project.

just use lst and keep tying the main stem down as it grows and the buds will grow like that on their own.

Attempting something like this on my next one. I plan on growing vertical until transition phase @ about 5 foot tall and then repotting into a 40 gal grow bag, tying the top and cutting a hole in the side, tying the plant down and letting the stretch do its thing. Indoor Basement grow. Will post journal photos. Not sure how will turn out but I think it should work well. Happy Growing

I'm in a small cabinet and bend all of my plants horizontal at around week 2-3 of Veg. (exactly like the picture you show). When trained this way, it seems to be easier to keep all of the flowers at equal height. (I top once or twice as well, but may not for my current grow.)

Here is how the buds look after training horizonatally---Notice that all the tops are close in height. This is key !

This is one plant grown with 100 watts of light. (sorry the bottom picture blocks the sideways training technique, but you get the idea) I use ties to secure the bend and a tie to make the actual bend.

To be honest, I cant understand why people grow xmas tree style unless grown outdoors. It doesnt makes sense to me not to bend the plant sideways. Light distribution is so much better when the plant is flattened out!

Sigh, I really need to check the post dates...this is a zombie thread. Lol

Just run a low scrog and top/train them young. Bend the long branches to the edge and let the short ones grow up so they are same height. I’ve done some big sativas that way in my room where the lights are 4 feet off the floor. You’ll get more yield with less veg compared to training one large branch like that
