Horizontal Growing

I have a dresser that is about 2.5ft tall by 8 feet wide by 1.5f deep. I am trying to turn it into a cab but the height is so small that I feel with lights and everything I wouldn't have room for anything worth growing, unless I really make use of all the horizontal space with some 4' t-5's or something. What's the best way to accomplish this?
Can I simply bend plants so they grow parallel to the lights or will the weight of the buds snap the stem?
Is it possible to just angle the pot and let the weed grow horizontally?
I've seen vertical light setups where the weed grows at a 90 degree angle, but never straight flat.
I also know I could possibly LST or top the plants, or even scrog, but I'm talking about maybe 2ft of usable grow room to work with, not much height at all, but a huge amount of width. And its a really great cab too, totally discrete, I'd love to make good use of it.

This is what I did, and it worked fine:

Got this New Wave T5 high output florescent fixture with 4 bulbs at four feet long. 20,000 initial lumens, and you can have it right next to the top of the plants.

I used bending, which allows light to reach more of the plant than otherwise, and also turns off the growth-inhibiting hormone. Every time the main branch or another branch was about to start touching the light, I would tie it down tighter. I had most of the branches secured to the plant's container with twine. So yes, it grows parallel to the light in the shape of a snake because it keeps trying to grow up to the light again after you tie it down each time. It's pretty low maintenance, not much different from moving a light every day. Just make sure nothing comes loose and hugs the T5's for awhile, or it will burn.

inneed i have about the same size cab in the process of being built. i am using 4 feet for mothers and clones then i'm goin to do a small forest sog. soon as clones root they go to flower in the other 4 foot section of the cab, like 16 total at a time and just get one main cola off each one.

my area is 8 feet wide 30" tall and 14" deep.

Three days ago, I took the 2 plants in my flower room and started the process of bending them horizontally. I bent them a bit every day as to not crack the main stem. Last night I completed the bending and the plants are perfectly horizontal. Amazingly enough, all the branches have changed direction and it looks like the all want to be colas. My first time as I have only been growing less than a year, but it looks like this will work well for me. I am stoked.

horizontal growing is totally fine and workable. when the main apical stem grows up a few inches, bend it back down to the 90 deg angle. meanwhile, the axion gowth hormones will shift to the lower nodes and cause the secondary apical growths at the lower nodes to grow upward. by the time your plant is 8 weeks old, (min. age to flower) you will have many grow tips waiting to bloom.

also, supercropping is a method of intentionally bending the main stem or stems till it breaks and falls over. the grow tip will still reoriant itself to upward growing, repair the damage and finish half as tall as normally.

see my 1st grow for an LST horizontal grow. good luck.

i have a similar issue... would it be possible to do completely horizontal? and never have to ben? cuz i am a huge noob and every thing i touch turns to shit (my first grow, only 2 out of 30 survived... and they were only 2 feet)... i dont wanna have to deal with bending....

is it possible to something like this V
[8=lights/>=plant/D=pot]

This is what Im about to try, getting my system set up in the next couple weeks. Gonna have the light places in the middle, and 2 plants on either side growing along the floor towards the light. :leaf:

i think gravity will fight you on this but maybe something like this

8 8 8 8 8 8 8 8 8 8 8 8 8
@----------------------------
@ 8 8 8 8 8 8 8 8 8 8 8 8

the @ being the pot and- the plant and 8 the lights

youll have to tie the stalk to keep it of the lights and to hold it up when it buds but i dont see why it wouldnt work

basically they want to grow a 8 foot plant sideways i think its possible jus LST that you dont curl up like a snake

I'm trying this to settle the argument once and for all.

1 plant
1 x 250w HPS
12/12 from seed
Pot upright
Train plant sideways with the light at the side (equiv to the top)

I really can't see why this will not work, the roots will remain upright, but the plant sideways........... jsut like a grape vine. I'll report back in a couple months let you know how it went :)

start a journal and keep us updated please, i would love to watch and see how it goes and what problems pop up and if its practical

Hi, Im from India [Bombay / Mobaim real name]. Its summer now but june will have a season change [rains]. I have 6 plants [3 weeks, 2 weeks and 2.5 weeks old] all under CFL's. 18 to 23 watt.
Im trying the plant down nice grow but need more info on how to add natural fertilisers, we dont get ready 2;2;2 or other fertiliser mixes here easily. Since most guys here are alchemists and make something all together with the chemicals. Hence not easily available. Kindly advise on what natural elements that will give my plant healthy nutrients.

Why don't you start your own thread in the newbie section, rather than jack the OP's thread. This has nothing to do with it.

I have been forced out of retirement after my last grow 25 years ago. I started 4 bag seeds (2 x Jesus OG, supposedly) And know clue on the other 2.
My intention was to start a couple seeds for the hell of it and if they took, take them to my buddies for an outdoor grow. Well as everyone knows the windowsill cuts it for about 4 days after sprouting and they leggy bullshit. So I built the GhettoGro 1000 (12 x 23w 6500k CFL) rigged together, white posterboard taped to the inside of a large tote, intake and outlet fan, etc. A total joke, but damn if those little bastards like it. I've done a variety of tourture to them on as regular basis. Primarily LST, with some yearly FIM'ing, a little Super-Cropping because it was too lazy to find a long enough tie down wire, so squeeze and bend that bitch.

I honestly don't know when I started them, probably 5 or 6 weeks ago? Combo soil/coco grow, now in 5 gal Walmart bag after transplant from 3 gal fabric grow pot (Rip-off, thanks whichever thread recommended the shopping bags.) I started with very briefly with Alaskan 5-1-1 Organic Fish Fert, Switch to GO 4-3-3 BioThrive Grow for a couple weeks, then based on another thread (Head to Head GH Flora Series vs GO Bio Series) I said screw the organics, I flush them girls. So luckily before I could go purchase the GH Flora, I came across the GH Maxi Thread (cheap, productive, etc.) I switched to MaxiGro 10-5-14......so, these have had 3 or 4 feedings of MaxiGro. Now I understand I should really just use MaxiBloom 5-15-14 and be done with it.

So that's the background, here's the question. I had originally planned to add a ScroG system to each bucket for mobility, keep 'em low. Add a 6 light T5HO (a $100 brother deal). And then flower with the appropriate color bulbs. And get whatever yield I get.

Or, since the plants are so low already, should I start letting them grow upwards more and get ready to send them to flower.

Or, keep them going as is....LST'ing them horizontal w/o ScroG net?

How much better quality and yield would be if I just get a 600w MH/HPS cobble together a grow area? ( I know that's subjective)

Time is not a huge driver for me right now. I have patience when needed.

What should I do? Leave 'em the hell alone?

I don't think the plant will grow like that. Soon as you bend, the nodes prior to the bend will take over and have to grow the distance lost and then even more to take over the top nodes total length. Because height is already an issue that space needed to grow the prior nodes up before bending down to surpass the original node may not be there.

As the plant will have so many tops, they will all want to continue growing up, including previously bent ones. You will soon be forced into bending nodes across the width of the area and it will fill up the width faster than you can fill out the length. Look at the layout of scrog, it is done in a squar but quite typically, in the wild ''bushes'' grow in a spherical manner. Theirs going to be a limit in how much you can manipulate the plant away from that tendency. A square scrog for example is not that far from it.

The only way I can picture the plant being that thin and long horizontally is if it was grown vertically first, then lay on it's side once at the desired height. Obviously not helpful to the OP.

It's just my opinion anyway, could be totally wrong.
