Horticulutre/Greenhouse Degree

Whats goods kids

Perhaps I could receive better answers here than from my teacher. I am taking a required Herbaceous Ornamental Plants class, the thing is I could care less about growing a plant for strictly its beauty of which has no valuable use other than to look attractive. I am going to grow Cannabis, and food I can eat. They say this class is a requirement for an AS in horticulture (Greenhouse Management). All this class is is memorizing the plants Species and Genus, Common name and basic characteristics, which I don't understand why if I have a book that tells me all this information anyway.

My question is how can I relate the class back to Cannabis and make this class interesting, as of right now, my focus on this class is a flat line, 0, nada. I have already missed the refund date, so I am shit out of luck there (about $400 is at stake here).

Really though, that is what my research led me to, I'm not going to monocrop corn, soy, wheat. I am going to grow biodiversely with Cannabis. When I asked our department head which way I should go, she directed me towards horticulture because it deals with biodiversity, unlike agriculture which deals with monocrapping. I am going to grow in a greenhouse, and I need to know the absolute best methods of production.

I have a Hort. degree. Our tests were identifying trees and plants from a small branch or just a leaf. Learning the names is the easy part. It's not fun but ya do it for the grade.

If you are interested in plants, apply yourself, study, listen and learn. They start with the basics to help weed out. Like any curriculum, it will behoove you to have the fundamentals and building blocks before advancing forward.

As for growing plants solely for aesthetics, with some time and experience growing under your belt, one day you may find your opinion changed.

How does/could Herbaceous ornamental plants help you grow Cannabis? Right now I do not see how memorizing something I can look up in my text book will help me grow cannabis.

I realize that I am closed minded when it comes to this, I just do not give a fuck; I apologize for my language, right now being 19 about memorizing the Latin name for a Begonia semperflorens-cultorm, Wax Begonia, Brassica oleracea, ornamental kale. I care about the kale that I can eat not the one that oh that looks pretty in landscaping. That is the other thing I feel that I am not learning a single thing new, or expanding upon my knowledge, I am merely memorizing something already organized neatly and orderly in the Herbaceous Ornamental plant textbook I have, I feel I am wasting my time with this class.

If you are just learning the names and how to identify different ornamental species, then it's a huge waste of time. If you are learning how to care for and grow each of these species specifically then I don't think it's a waste of time. If anything you will have a more diverse background in botany in general. It's good to be diverse like you said earlier, but here you are complaining that you are learning about somthing other than cannabis. Go to oaksterdam u for that.

have you ever considered working part time at a fast food place smoking blunts with all your hard earned money to have none left over in the end for anything else and not go to school. or just take the class and stfu becuz its a transferable credit towards any other course your little young heart desires to take. much love wheels...

Bold part is exactly how I feel, that is the thing, we are not learning how to care and grow each of the species, if we were then this topic would not have been made. I realize I am complaining, If I did not live in the Midwest I would have already taken their courses already.

I work at a bar, and that is what we already do, except I budget my finances, if Cannabis cannot be consumed one week due to other financial commitments (insurance, gas, food, college savings, vacation fund, emergency fund), oh well that is one of the reasons I am going to grow, defiantly not the main reason though.

GOLD thank you for sharing this, looks like I'll never have to worry about not having something to read, once I finish Dale Carnegie.

Not to knock anything, but I consider myself somewhat of a farm/AG geek, And grow vegetables to sell, and know many others who do. And from those I have met, the people that studied hort/AG in school, tended to have some difficulty getting over the supposed experiance gained in school, and are more apt to reach for easy solutions (chemicals) and questionable "scientific" explanations for various problems they encounter.

The old guys who only use compost, look at the sky to tell the weather and get thier hands, feet and jeans in the dirt tend to grow the best crops.

My friends joke that I am an old man sometimes, I drive an Oldsmobile (second one), and plan on getting an older Benz. Anyhow, straight up that is exactly what I believe in. I won't let chemicals touch my food if I have the ability to affect that. Natural everything when growing is the way to go. Some may think this sounds nuts, growing as organically as possible, in my opinion brings out the true characteristics of the Cannabis, scent, the aroma, the texture, the effects of ingestion. It all brings me at least closer to the earth, unlike chemical Cannabis spayed with petrochemicals.

I would like to add I have made the the decision to say fuck Herbaceous Ornamental Plants, (reminds me of a beauty Padget to much, stupid bitches, with fake looks) and am going to take a course on evergreens, vines, and groundcover instead, everyone likes that privacy right? Just roll with it. Maybe you’ll make some new friends in class. Doing seemingly stupid and pointless shit is kind of an unfortunate fact of life doesn’t mean you can’t make the best out of it.

I’m going back to school this spring just to stack my gi bill payments and cover grow upgrades not taking anything useful just gonna argue with philosophy professors for intellectual masturbation.

If I have money for a degree, I would instead buy some raw land near a metro area and learn from my mistakes. Caterpillar tunnels are getting quite inexpensive.
