HOT cfl BURN solution question/solution?

so heres the verdict on my temp problem. as it was mentioned a few posts back, i might be circulation hot air. that was true. all of a sudden we had a heat spike and i wasnt using AC to keep the house cool. now that i have been running the AC in the house and using "one fan in, one fan out" the flow of air in the room supplying the closet air can now get fresh conditioned air. this maintains the temperature in the closet at about 75-78 degress now.

in the future i can see closet doors with slats in them so that the closet can vent fresh air without the doors open. i can also see at some point punching a hole in the ceiling to vent hot air up/out, but i want to make that a last resort or project for next time.

You say you are running red cfls'. I started with a tornado and the first leaves were weird, kinda round and distorted and the tips of the next set seemed a little sun burnt. Changing to a 45 watt daylight along with increasing the distance from the leaves seemed to fix this. As soon as I can get to the hardware store I'll get an 85 or 105 watt daylight cfl which should really get things humming even more as she is looking really healthy and veging out everywhere. I'm on a tight budget also but I guess it's good to have spare cfls' around should one pop.

CFLs' are new and not like the regular tubes so it is good to hear and learn from each others experiences with these

hehe, yeah. so far I have been through three different sets of CFLS. started with some really soft blues, 10w good for germing/seedlings. then I had those really huge red tornadoes, 45w, those suckers burned half of my seedlings so I got the smaller 23w cfls. They are a little less hot.

sometimes I think that there might be some type of exhaust that comes off of the bulbs ballast that is not good for the plants co2 intake. I think this because even reducing the intensity by changing lights, i still get those weird tips forming on the leaves.
could just be my set up though, since I have been having problems with stunting and stress, some of my plants are different sizes so its hard to keep them all the same distance from the light.
i have some plans for seperating my different sized plants, but since this is my first time it is totally trial and error and learning from failures.

Yeah first time grow too. So today got a 105 watt cool white cfl and drilled some vent holes in the alum shade cause these things do run a little hot. I've got it about 6" from the top of my baby so will see how that grows...

I'm hoping to be able to grow a couple of clones in the same space with this new light and might set up a seedling space with the 45 w.

Just did some research and found that a cfl coolwhite is in the 4000 - 4200 k range which is ideal and the daylight runs around the 6400 kelvin.

So I'm guessing from what I've read here that the 105 w coolwhite cfl that I've now got should be ideal for veging and budding when I drop the light to 12/12

Weird I have big cfl bulbs I just got they are about 12 inches long 300 watt replacement and can have them on for hours and hold the lit bulb in my hand without any discomfort.lucky me

300 w replacement? is that the actual power consumption or equivalent incandescent output and what color are they?

My one is really only hot at the top where the ballast is so drilled holes in the shade to vent the ballast heat so I wouldn't cook the light fitting. It seems fine now.

heres my grow, its kinda janky in the beginning, but youll get the idea.
i just transplanted into new, better media and larger pots yesterday. Some of the plants i had were super rootbound so hopefully they will regain their upward growth.

What's happenin growers - Just wanted to throw in my 2 cents... Catgirl, and Fletch, just wondering where you guys picked up your cfl's? Always on the lookout for options... Cat, I think your info's slightly off.. The best cfl's, in ANY wattage for vegging are "daylight", or 6500K, and for flowering, "warm white", or 2700K. Like guru Roseman says, it's pretty hard to attribute burns to cfl's if all your other variables are in good range. I'm using a 250 watt 65k cfl in a batwing reflector for vegging, plus another 150 watts or so here and there in clamp lights. And yeah, I burned the heck out of my 6 indica's when they were REALLY young, but that was a result of my dumb ass inexperience and lack of knowledge. Overdid the foliar spraying, and had my big 250w too close. Once I relaxed, got my temps, humidity, ventilation, and freaking PATIENCE under control, some seriously pretty new growth took off. I'm only on day 34 from seed, and I've got ALL 450 watts or so pretty darn close, between 4 and 8 inches, depending on the different heights of each plant. By the way, what the heck is a "tornado"???
