@Hot Diggity Sog sup bro!

Well, i'm 4 years late to the original party, but what a great read both your diaries have been! great growin, man. Super cool

You know you can convert that lux to ppfd by dividing by 67 (for 3k anyway) so 55.000 lux is more or less 820ppfd. i wouldnt go much higher than that without Co2

looking forward to the rest of the diary, man - cheers!
Thanks for the kind words and that conversion...very helpful :)

I did post my plant. Buds so heavy they were breaking branches. Had to tie them up. Also showed 10 jars aprox 1 oz give or take a few grams and the 11-12 gram bid not even in the jar so not much else i can say. The QB are very good. I also grow very simple. GH Cal Mag, Micro and Bloom only from day 1 to harvest in 3.9 gal autopots of coco. Its just a auto fed from bottom of pots rez system. No crazy nutes only topped and that was all. They were Mephisto Ripley's OG which could get 300 grams per plant in perfect conditions. Easily the top auto breeder atm. I don't really go for awards or rep, but yes. I got roighly 10 oz off of 1 135 watt QB weather driven to 150 or 130 as i payed the extra $25 fro them to assemble it.
Reading the back and forth between you and the other guy, when I saw him say google it my eyes rolled so hard I pulled a muscle.

I love this paragraph here. Nearly every "home grower" I know has more nutes and testing equipment than any legit grow I have ever worked at/with. This shit is science but it is not rocket science ya know. Simple setups are often the best

I know cats that have been growing for 10+ years as "homegrowers" that have all kinds of fancy meters and whatnot. Their buds are the same as they were 10 years ago. All this testing and changing and money... For stringy buds the size of a lighter? Blows my mind.

No offense to any of ya that test any and everything possible. If it's your thing, its your thing. I just feel like a lot of growers (especially newer ones) get lost to this new tech of testing everything, instead of just learning the plant and about growing plants in general. At some point of experience, you will become the meter and just from looking you will know what it needs.

Hot Diggity,

I love that side lighting idea. and i wish i had taht much space to work with.

an idea i've had for a while is to do this:

take a plant like you've got and train it to grow between 2 trellis/fences/etc. that are about 4 inches apart.

keep your light on top and move the qb's to either side of the trellis

so it wouldn't really grow like a bush but more like the flat plane that the space between the trellis' would give you. almost like a vertical scrog but with lights on top and both sides.
does that make sense at all?

Things are going great - she's doing her thing. I'm just trying not to get in the way too much.

I had been stretching her out trying to get shaded branches more light but I've since stopped. Her growth and water/nute uptake started to get irregular. I also snapped a few stems and decided that I'm probably introducing stress and doing more harm than good. Within 2 days of cutting all the string, her water and nute uptake shot up again.

The stretch is officially over. I really wish she had grown another 2 feet or so..I guess 80 days of veg is not enough...ugh. From the floor, she is exactly 5 feet tall. She'll probably end somewhere between 5.5 and 6 feet depending on how the cola's grow.

As a reminder, I have a 600W HPS on top and ( 8 ) QB 288 V2's on the sides.

Let's see some pics!

Nice grow Hot Diggity Sog! Following along to see how things work out. I like the experimental approach, and hope you're still on track for your Christmas harvest!

Thank you! I'm actually going to be posting an update in a few hours. Trying to post every 4 days or so.
I love to experiment - it's how I learn.

Ahh...I love this part of the grow. We get to guess as to how the cola's will form...how the plant(s) will turn out, in general. Going into tonight's update, I was a little bummed and felt like the progress had slowed. I think because I am in my grow room like 20 times a day, the changes and progress just tend to pass me by a little bit...which is why it's important to keep my journal's updated regularly...mostly for you - the ones who like to watch this stuff - but also for me so I can look back. I don't want to update too often but I also don't want to wait too long and miss growth spurts....or procedural changes, especially. Let's start with that...some procedural changes I made.

On day 46, I built a simple sprinkler that worked really well. It served it's purpose but it's time to retire it. It was used to both increase O2 in the water as well as provide quicker water recirculation. I disassembled this for 2 reasons:

1) I'm trying to keep the water level as low as possible and, by doing so, the sprinklers were dropping water directly on the roots instead of the water surface thus defeating the purpose.
2) I felt like the root mass had become so massive that I feared there was not enough water exchange between the plant rez and the epicenter.

Here is a picture of the sprinklers as of Day 46 until tonight:

1.jpg

I removed the sprinkler design and replumbed the 1/2" tubing coming from the epicenter and am now just sending this water underneath the root mass. The roots are so massive, you can't even tell there is movement underneath. It's pretty crazy.

Next big change:
This isn't a change I've done yet but will be doing before the next update. I bought ( 18 ) Quantum Boards just for this grow and I'm gunna use em come hell or high water :)
I already did my 1st attempt where I had a 600W HPS on top and ( 16 ) QB's on the sides, and that was WAY too much. BUT: I remember now why I bought dimmable drivers. At least ( 16 ) QB boards will be online by next update - just have to figure out exactly how I want to implement it.

Some final thoughts before pictures:
The flowers under the HPS Only are the largest and most developed. They also have the least amount of frost.
The flowers under LED only have really good frost but are lacking in the density department.
The flowers that are getting equal amounts of LED and HPS have AMAZING frost and, for the most part, have really solid density,

Man I totally hear you about being in there every day. I was on vacation from work for a bit and in there constantly. You do miss small changes. You know it when you go back and look and pictures. I would would think holy smokes, I didn't notice how much they had grown.
Looking forward to seeing the what those boards can do!

I won't be doing a proper update until tomorrow or Monday but I do have a sneak peak! Bringing on 8 more QB Led panels will be included :)

Day 115
Flowering - Day 36

1st day of Week #6! She's doing great and, as promised, has 8 more QB boards online! I found the dimming feature on my drivers to be incredibly easy to use! Each board had been pulling ~ 114 watts at the wall. After dimming the drivers, each board is now pulling exactly 60 watts. 2 boards per driver for a total of 120 watts per driver and 240 watts per tower.

I still have the 600W HPS up above but I'm already considering how to remove it and replace with some more QB boards. The problem is that I need the heat. It's been getting cold and my ambient basement temps have dropped to 59 degrees F. My grow room bottoms out at 61 degrees when lights are out and peaks at 72 degrees when lights are on but it takes a long time to reach 72 - like 8 or 9 hours.

Not too much else to report on so I'll get right to the pictures. The only thing worth mentioning is that I dropped 2 items from my feedings: Silica and Vita Blue. No more of either.
The last pic is showing some little babies at the bottom - I didn't have the heart to cut them :)
The 2nd to last pic - I just added that tonight. I want to get a bit more air flow on her inside. Will likely add more this week.
