Chapter 9: The Pheno Hunt
Day93
Day 72 of 12/12
Things are coming to an end. I began chopping a plant here and a plant there on Saturday and I'm left with about half of the plants. A few of them could certainly go another week but I think it's fine.
On Day 70, I graded all of the plants. They all got either an A, B, C or D. The few that would have gotten an F were already killed.
I've decided that my selection process can only include plants from the A and B category. I'll still send all of the samples to my reviewers, but if anything from C or D scores exceptional, I will not consider it. My grading scale focuses mostly on flower development and shape, sensitivities to nutrients and general overall plant health. I'm just not interested in keeping some sickly odd looking plant just because it reviews exceptionally well. I'll keep sifting, thank you.
Here's the breakdown: (Keep in mind, finding a Chem keeper is top priority.)
Chem:
(3) Scored an A
(3) Scored a B
(1) Scored a C
(2) Scored a D
Appalachian Super Skunk:
(2) Scored an A
(1) Scored a B
(1) Scored a C
Goji OG F2:
(2) Scored an A
(2) Scored a B
(2) Scored a C
(1) Scored a D
It's going to take a long time before I get the reviews back ~ 3 1/2 months I estimate.
I figure 2 weeks of hang dry, 2 weeks of pre-cure, 6 weeks of cure. That puts me at 10 weeks before I can even ship samples. 4 weeks minimum after that to get all of the results in.
So...here is the plan. If you recall, I bought a fridge dedicated to clones. I've been holding clones of all of these in cold storage since the end of January. I'm going to pull out 2 clones from each plant and try and get them going. Having never stored clones this way, I don't know if it's going to work. So I'm going to keep all of the plants from groups A and B and attempt to reveg them, in the event the clones don't work.
In the meantime, I've started seeds for Chapter 10 which consists of only 2 varieties:
Mountain Temple from Bodhi and Green Crack. I never got the old school Mass seeds I was promised - oh well, move on.
By the time reviews come back, I'll hopefully have living plants in veg to select from based on the reviews.
The plants I've already chopped were the ones that were clearly done. The pictures tonight are what is left. They range from mostly done to almost done.
