How big is too big?

I have 4 plants under a 1000W MH running on half power, I have the room and ventilation to run on full power, I just cant get it to run on full power.
Im wondering:
What should the square footage of my room be to get optimal use of my light running on both 500 and 1000 watts?
I have an 9'x8.5' room with a ceiling height of 8'

It is very easy for me to vent air in and out of this room. Any suggestions on how to setup my room is greatly appreciated.

As of now the light is in the corner of the room.

U post to much bro ppl will stop helping u if they see u aren't willing to do some research on ur own

Ive done research and have a general idea. Just trying to get an active conversation going and get opinions on optimizing grow space from other members, that is the point of the site, right?

Why can't you run your light on full power? From what I've read, 1000w light is good for a 5x5 room. If you're running at 500w, you'd probably be better off with 4x4. A 9x8.5 room is too big for the light you're using.

5x5 (or maximum 6x6) for a 1kW. You can spread it out, but if you do some homework, that's the typical rule.

I can put up panda film or mylar to section off the room. I can get the light to run on full power, just had to let the ballast cool off

Thats about what I found.

I can section the room off to the optimal space, just wanted to see what everyone has done in past grows.

If you have electrical/heat issues, you need to segregate. Despite what some will say, you don't necessarily need walls around everything, but it does help.

1kW == 5x5 (at a fundamental level), so do the math :)

I shouldnt have any issues. I have the space and easy access to ventilation, so I might as well section off my room to get optimum usage of my light.

I have a 600w HID in a 5x5 tent right now, and I definitely feel like I need more light. I'm actually also using a 4 foot, 4 bulb T5 as supplemental side lighting while I finish up flowering this run, but I think I'll invest in another 600w ballast and bulb and add that to my Adjust-A-Wing, which can hold two bulbs. When I was buying the equipment I figured 600w would be good enough. It's not. You're going to want to make your room smaller or increase your light.

I also have a large cfl, 8 bulb light. Would it help if I hung that horizontally pointing at the sides of the plants in order to get light down there?
If so would I want to keep it during veg and flower?

That's what I'd do, and if I were on a budget, I'd segregate that space into a flower space, veg space, clone space and let's call it a 'testing' space. CFL, LED or T5 will accomplish all that.

The lights wouldnt mix if I just sectioned off the room? I also have a room upstairs that im using as my mother and cloning room. Would it be ideal to put my extra cfls on their side facing the middle sections of the plants?

ps. I buy 5' wide mylar by a 50' roll for $22 from my local grow shop. To make a room you'll have to double up the mylar, but man does it work well.

Im using panda film at the moment, but I am planning to switch to mylar and section off my 5x5 space for vegging and flowering my plants.

Panda film is just as good. Again... can you show some pics? Also, describe what you envision as an end result. What do you want to accomplish?

First two pics are my setup downstairs as well as my ventilation set up at the moment. I plan on sectioning that off in a 6x6 space. The second pic is an extra light i have sitting around. Can you think of any way i could use it in my set up?

I posted the pics. I plan on sectioning it off with panda film or mylar and putting a ducting hold on the top to vent air out. Then I will have an air conditioner in the room outside of the 6x6 space and possibly vent air in.

Its tough to get pictures of the room. Idk if you can picture it, I have a board that I took off my closet that goes down to the basement, there are in/out ducts in the basement.
