How can i cool this bulb?

I have a 400w Hps lamp as seen in the pic and it hangs in the attic i was thinking of having to sheet metal plates installed onto the wood above the lamp and running some exaust fans from the lamp? any ideas? on how i shouls do this anything will be appreciated. the temps are low right now and the heat from the bulb keeps the temperature in my grow box at a constant level but when the temnps rise i will need to cool this bulb so i want to get that out of the way and be ready for w.e temp it may be in there so i dont start a fire.

any suggestions?

make a cool tube for it check the FAQ section lots of info on this

If it were me i'd just buy an air cooled hood & be done with it.

those things can be expensive and i looked at the cool tube but im not sure where i can get a glass tube like that :/ other than that i would do it

i want to cool this bulb using just fans meaning computer fans how many should i have in exaust and intake and about how much cfm would i need?

so many views and so little replies can anyone just give me an answer? just the simplest way to cool off this bulb???>..

dude, point a fan at the light and it will cool it, problem is the heat goes somewhere, like in ur room, near the top. point the fan at the light, and have another fan vent the heat out the top of the attic, presto!

yeah if your not getting fresh air in your just circulating heat...just get a peice of 8" heating vent round like 18" long cut a hole (square) half the tube...mount socket in one end run wire into tube (drill hole use gromet in hole) use a reducer 8"to4"run some dryer hose 4"... put a peice of plexi glass or lexan(hobby shop, HD) to cover the hole you cut put some panty hose over the open end and hook your fan to the tube...wow now you have a 15 dollar cool tube drill some holes put some j hooks on it and attach your chain...you'll need a bit more CFM than a little computer fans gonna do...you"ll need to get at least 260 cfm per 400 there are some cheap fans on ebay all the air in and air out problems are yours you'll just have to figgure what works .attic to cold here, basement good, vent to attic vent, no smell ,no noise very good hope that helps yeah the cool tubes are exp if you buy them I've gotten good making them plus in the future if ya want another light just hook anothe tube to the one you just made ect. ect. ect.

Look bud,your grow op is in an attic,its going to get hot as hell up there,you are not going to be able to control heat issues without doing it the right way right off the bat,anything you do that involves getting off as cheap as possible may work in the short term but once it warms up outside your back to square one & looking for another cooling method,the reason your not getting alot of responses with suggestions is because you've regected the right/best way to accomplish the task,if this were a simple task cool tubes & air cooled hoods would not be big sellers.

Your light emmits radiant heat directly from the bulb,unless you enclose the light & capture the heat before it hits the ambient air then exhaust out of the grow area the heat will still raidate into the room, running fans directly on the bulb will be useless,all that will accomplish is to spread the heat through the entire area,hooking up an exhaust combigned with a few computer fans to try & suck the heat away from an exposed hid bulb is an excersize in futility & most likely a waste of cash.

Im as cheap as they come & look for ways to do everything for free but some things must be done the right way in order for them to be effective,this is one example.
