The title says it all, ive got an apt and the bedroom is gonna be my growroom but theres a cop station 2 doors down and im gonna have to seal it completely and my friend brought up the point of thermal imaging.

Does anyone know how to effectively shield a room from thermal imaging?

Here is an answer to the question of how do I deal with a heat signature from my grow room.

C3 anti-detection film:

A specialized type of Mylar that exhibits the same properties as the 2mm thick mylar, but in addition to reflecting approximately 92-97% of the light, it also is 90% infrared proof, making your grow room all but invisible to IR scanning. This can also be attached in the same manner as Foylon or Mylar, and the same caution should be used to avoid creating hotspots in your room.

Originally used by the military as a defence against Infrared sensor devices, its now being used in the horticultural industry as a reflective film.

Why use C3 Anti-Detection Foil?

When ADF is not used, heat from the lights is absorbed by all objects, including the walls in the room. ADF reflects 90% of the heat so that most of the heat goes out your exhaust fan, thereby reducing the temperature.

- Reflects 95% of light!

Bigger yield and more efficient energy consumption. 20% more light reflective than plastic white film.

-Durable and easy to work with!
-Does not go clear upon contact with liquid!

One thing yet to mention is to purchase C-3 anti-detection film you will have to find an online store outside of the U.S. It works so well at hiding heat signatures that it can no longer be sold in the U.S.

I can only assume the reason for that is because it works so amazingly well that it greatly hindered any detection at all when and where it was used.

I don’t know about you but I bet a bunch of growers would sleep better at night knowing they had that level of infrared imaging protection.

Law enforcement has to have a warrant before they can use FLIR. If they already are to the point where a warrant has been issued you have a lot more to worry about then your house being "hot". I would worry more about your trash, power consumption, odor, someone you told about your op, etc... those are the things that get the warrant in the first place. Then they use FLIR and just confirm what they already knew from you being a sloppy grower or a blabber mouth. I am not saying that you are at all. I am just giving you a heads up about things that are of a much higher priority then your house being "hot".

I don't trust the justice system one bit...they could be using FLIR first and just get the warrant later by saying they smelt an odd odor coming from the house..i just dont trust the police

They could also secretly set up an entire grow in your house without you knowing and then bust you for it. You can play the what-if game all day and speculate, but in actuallity your heat signature is one of the last things you need to worry about. Also those films are not necassary if you disperse the heat evenly throughout a structure. I have seen it done with 5000sq feet and it didn't look any different than anything else on the block. It was just a bit "warmer" then the other structures. It would have been a pain to foil up 5000sq feet. What will get you is having empty bags in your trash, or your electric bill being sky high, or you telling someone, or a number of other things. There are many reasons why one house could be "hotter" than the next. There are a lot fewer reasons why there would be a "hot" exhaust coming out of a house that is not a dryer and runs for 12 hours on and 12 hours off. I will say that it is always better to be paranoid about it then to slack off. So you are on the right track even if it is over kill. I have a friend that sells hydro supplies, and even he doesn't use the film.

That is true but in each and every situation it may not be equally practical or even possible so it is wise to explore all avenues and then chose the best option for each individual situation/condition.

I have numerous times offered various ways of equally dissipating heat from a grow room so it will then present a more normal appearing heat signature where even it does standout for some reason could very easily be explained by one or numerous totally normal explanations and therefore overlooked.

So at times doing certain things that will accomplish that can be the very best way to do something and possibly the simplest and least expensive.

Other times none of such options are at all viable and other solutions must be found and then used.

Last thing you should worry about. They can't use an FLIR without a warrant. Even so it is highly unlikely you'd ever be served with a warrant. Worry about smell and how many people you tell. You will get busted 100x faster that way.

distribute the heat evenly, and keep your mouth shut. no one needs to know about it, or deserves to know about it for that matter! I know as a first timer I was so excited I wanted to tell EVERYONE! but they 95% of them don't give a shit cause their not into cultivation so keeping quiet is key.

@ mr2shim.... that is certainly not the case in the uk, they use that technology to gather evidence so they can bust people. In the US ur fine but this is the no1 way to catch the uk community

People! Do you really think that a bunch of pot growing low tech heads can beat the technology invented daily? Being quiet - number 1 way to avoid trouble. Not just talking about shit they shouldn't but any noise that a neighbor might notice.

Basic sewer vent - 4" and non-pressurized in YOUR home. Find it, cut with a sawzall and fit a 4" drain "Y" with the open leg facing DOWN! Connect your fan exhaust to this leg and never again worry about smells (#1) but the heat goes straight up the stack (#2) with heat from your hot shower, your clothes washer etc. A 6" fan exhaust can be connected with a common "transition" - the term for a piece of metal that reduces the opening. All available at Lowes.

I know this is none of my business but i dont think you need to be worrying about the thermal if otherpeople know about your grow.

What i've done here in the UK is to cover the window with a sheet of plasterbord (the type that has foil on the back) .... leave the curtains etc on the window so it just looks the same from outside ... Then i open the windows in the other bedrooms for the air to vent around the upstairs giving an even heat signature.

Unless their chopper just 'happens' to notice the light signature while they are pursuing a suspect in the area, and they were using IR to follow a suspect's heat image, then they are allowed to use that information in their subsequent investigation.

Same as if they come upon your OD plants while chasing a suspect thru your yard.

If they just 'happen upon' a grow building, and notice the light patterns, THAT is enough for them to start an investigation (checking for odors, pulling your trash, running a drug-dog, checking utility records, sampling sewer waste, etc). When they get enough circumstantial evidence to convince a sympathetic judge to allow a warrant... it's over.

If you've just got a light or 2 in your house, you're prolly fine, other than the fact that your friends know about it and that's how most grows get exposed. (Not saying this about YOU & your friends, obviously)
