How Can I Schedule a Power Outage During a Grow?

I'm in a bit of a predicament. I have 100 amp service in my house, but I need to upgrade to 200 amp. Most of the work is already done - I have the 200 amp breaker box in place, all circuits are moved over already. The 100 amp box has been feeding the 200 amp box for about a year without issues, until tonight.

Our house is heavily reliant upon electricity: well pump, electric water heater, electric dryer, several air conditioners, a dehumidifier (not in grow room), and the 600 hps and 600 mh (running lower power for veg tent), plus a portable air conditioner sucking another 900 watts in the grow room. Apparently too much was going at once, the main 100 amp breaker tripped. NEVER happened before though. Always just had individual breakers trip occasionally when running a heater and a toaster oven plugged in or something stupid like that... Anyhow, thought the power went out everywhere. Didn't see anything tripped as it was one of those half tripped breakers you see sometimes. The breaker was HOT. So I called the power company.

Finally got those yutzes out here, but just after I figured it was just us and rectified the problem. I talked with them outside while they looked at the incoming wire. They figure my incoming house line near the meter is actually just 60 amps! WTH?

I have my grow stuff in a separate room at the other end of the house from the electric, in a closed, locked, blacked out room. There is some smell coming out the exhaust though, which you can smell when you're near the front door. I attribute this to my crappy DIY carbon filter though. I can either tweak it or buy a real one. If the power company employees try to report me for a smell, I know my rights, and how to act in the presence of authorities, not worried on that front, but also don't want the hassle.

I'm concerned about the plants during the complete power outage. I believe they're supposed to do such electric work on the same day, scheduling everything so it's done one after the other. I have 4 plants that should finish flower soon, week 10 now (since the 12/12 flip). Also 2 large in veg ready to jump to flower mode, and 6 additional clones that are a few weeks old. Everything is in soil.

I don't want to have any plant issues, but also don't want any hassles from smells. I'm guessing I should try and schedule something for after the harvest and cure of the four in flower, but don't know what would happen with those just moving to flower and those left in veg. I have an emergency marine battery/inverter setup I could use for a few hours to power some fans, but it wouldn't do the MH/HPS lights. Maybe I could setup a couple CFLs and run them during the light schedules until the electric change over, or is that not necessary?

Just harvest and finish the bud up. Hook the inverter to a.small fan and charbon filter the morning they come to change the service. It will take them 20 mins after it is isolated . You'll be fine as long as your not stealing Hydro. Most lineman enjoy the odd puff themselves . Just take care of your smell and you'll be fine.

Thanks. It may take a little more time waiting on an inspection, then the lineman though. Hopefully everyone gets on location on time. Wonder what the cost will be as well.

If you are in an illegal state dont mess around with the smell issue, pop for a good carbon filter. Heck Im in a legal state where there are wharehouse size grows right down the street and I use carbon filters as not to piss off any snoopy neighbors or adventerous neigborhood kids.

Good luck with the grow :)

60 amps thats just rediculous haha have you tried spreading out the consumption of electricity by using spaced outlets?

What about the service entrance? Going from 100 amps to 200 amps will usually require a upgrade in you're service entrance wiring size from the meter to you're panel.

If they send police you don't have to let them in.
Unless they have a warrant, in which case, they'll let themselves in if you don't. Fuck your rights, don't be stupid, and don't play the game with them. Keep your ass down, your eyes up, and cover your sector. Otherwise, you're going to be in a world of shit.

fwiw if your house is older say pre 40's, a 60A panel and corresponding service entrance wiring was typical. prolly upgraded to 100A without changing svc drop decades ago

If you can manage the smell with a proper carbon filter and maybe add a bucket of ONA Gel, even having the lights out for 24-48 hours would be fine as long as they're not coming on/off/on/off, keep them in a dark state and they'll be fine. I had a 3 day outage after an ice storm a few months back and just turned everything off so it wouldn't come on/off/on/off, left them in the dark for like 48 hours and they never missed a beat. Had plants flowering in there anywhere from Day 25 to Day 50, plants veggiing, clones, seedlings an saw no issues at all.

Service upgrade is done! Now @ 200 amp. I closed the exhaust windows for most of the day. Just had my internet and a large fan blowing on all plants, running off a marine battery and inverter. Ran an ozone generator outside the room before they arrived. I followed everyone in and out of the house. Once I caught them overtly sniffing the air. At the time I could smell the plants as well. I just told them I had run an ozone generator to freshen up the basement. Heh... wasn't lying! Then toward the end of the day opened an exhaust window, turned on an exhaust fan on low, ran the ozone generator again for a few minutes outside the room again. By the time the last guy came back in to turn on the power the basement was nice and fresh again. Lights are back on, continuing their normal schedules. Humidity rose to 80+ for a while, but temps stayed in mid 70s in the room.
