how close is too close for tubes is there like a certain hot spot at a certain distance where the lumens decreases the closer/ farther away it is?

its kinda a stupid question but i recently got a t5 i had the plants prolly 6" away and they took off i thought they would grow even faster if i raised them alittle so i put them closer 2' away and they almost seemed to slow down odd right?

You're watching your plants too closely.

With most of the length of tube fluoros, plants can almost touch the surface. Get them as low as possible, a couple inches away. Avoid the extreme edges because they can be quite hot, enough to damage tender young plants.

Don't rush it. Your plants will not grow as fast as you like in the beginning. It's developing it's root system. This takes a few weeks. I kept my plants about nine inches below a true 125 watt CFL. Wait until you have a good root system before moving them too close or the plant will suffer because of lack of water and the heat.
