How did people before us figure out harvest time?

After 10 years or so of harvesting, a scope can't tell you any more than your senses can. ;-)

I started this thread basically because of one of my latest grows. Amnesia Haze by Rokerij (defunct). Seedfinder says ~70 days but mine quit packing on weight around 55 days of 12/12 (though I vegged for almost 80 days!), and stopped taking in much water about the same time. Almost all of the white pistils were gone, and much of the orange ones were pulling back into the buds. I still ended up waiting until 76 days of 12/12, but I basically chopped her down because I was tired of looking at a plant that had done next to nothing for 20 days or more. I watched the trichs after day 55 and when I started to see some amber on the calyxes, it was time to chop.

I don't go by breeder specs, or word of mouth for that matter! As you posted above watch the plant activity and you will be able to tell when growth has slowed and what stage the plant is in.

At about the 60 day mark I may take a peak at the trichs but after that it's all general look amd smell, and after some time..taste

The Cannabis Grow Bible has a list of things to look for...here are some of them from memory:

1) 50-80% of pistils have changed color and are receding back into the bud
2) Smell has reached its peak
3) Calyxes are swollen
4) Bud doesn't seem to be getting bigger for a few days

There were some others, too. The book also mentions that there is a "harvest window" not a single day where everything is in alignment, so a few days here or there as long as the majority of the harvest markers are present is not a big deal.
