I got the 6 in. eBay fan/ filter and speed controller combo. Think it was 120 off there. Fan works great but it's a little loud. Cheapo filter was replaced in 3 months. Went and got a new cheapo name brand filter. 3 months later I use both filters and there still maybe a slight sweet smell to the air.. It definitely will help you not to cheap out on a filter

Buddy has a phresh filter and can fan both 4 in and I'd be willing to bet it's way more efficient and effective then my 6 in. He paid 3x more but his works great

You need the muffler makes it soooo much quieter you wont even hear the fan just the filter sucking in air

it depends on how many you are going to grow and what strain you are gonna use to whether it will smell or not

if you want a nice low key cheap set up use a grow box and for example grow 1 or 2 plants you will need around 155w of cfl's minimum and can use a couple of pc fans for extractor fans and passive intake or have 1 for extractor running at around 12 volts and then an intake running at 9 volts so you create abit of negative pressure,pc fans are cheap and quiet inside a closed closet you can barely hear a thing anything more powerful and pushing alot of air like an inline fan make noise unless you are good at soundproofing

buy some ona gel put that outside the grow box and closet but in your room that will kill the smell for 1 or 2 plants, keep the window open abit then finally buy a couple of usb fans for inside the grow box and you are good to go and it will be cheap AF set up and depending on the height of your box and some decent LST you will be growing some nice bud.

i always think people should start small and inexpensive for first few grows and then if you need to get rid of the set up for whatever reason or you find its a ball ache growing it hasn't cost too much but i would definitely try to change the door on your closet and put your girlfriends clothes somewhere else because in flowering things are gonna get smelly in that closet haha

good luck with whatever you decide dude

Its funny, but at one point my son (older than 21) smelled so bad I thought he had body odor. It was that offensive. Turned out to be a skunk strain of some kind. I don't ever want to grow that smell...... Think 2 weeks in the same clothes hiking bad, with foot odor and maybe a yeast infection.
