To correct that, i would try some relaxation before deep breathing into it, simple movements like yoga or any movement you condone, practiced with thoughtful relaxness, should help un tense certain stresses in your body, which will give way to eventually directly relaxing your injury. It may not be essential to forcefully carry your breath for abdonimal breathing, but by relaxing your breathing, in turn relaxing your body, you will clear and open air pathways in the body, which will give a similar effect to abdonimal breathing.
