How do I install an inline fan muffler?

I have a 32"x32"x64" grow tent with a 400watt cool tube, carbon filter, and 440cfm inline fan.

My wife and I live with her parents and have the tent in the closet so the fan noise is a BIG problem. From what I've read I should get a switch to adjust the speed as well as insulated ducting, and a muffler. I plan on getting all three but I have some questions....

1. I plan on running the insulated ductwork from the fan to the tent and using non-insulated ductkng on the inside. Is that alright?

2. My main question...where does the muffler go? I'd love slme pics also.

Which endof the fan do I stick the muffler? Do I attach it to the side that is pulling the air ojt of the tent or the side thats blowing out all the air?

You need to hide your grow from the parents right? I promise my method will work! 100 percent of the time! Ready for this? Don't grow until you get your own place. Problem solved.

They know we smoke. We just want to grow so we save money and get a better product. I answered my own question about muffler placement by asking the internet. Silly me.

Ive had bad experiences with using mufflers , to be specific the fans connected to mufflers burned out from the drag on the fan motor .

I think mufflers are dangerous in a building where people live/sleep , the last thing you want is a seized up fan motor overheating & catching fire .

My solution to noise control was to replace all flexible duct work with hard pipe galvanized ducts , the ripples in flexi duct lower air flow drastically , by switching to hard pipe a fan speed controller allowed me to turn fan speed down by about 60% which lowered noise levels by 9db which is a massive sound drop , if radient heat from the hard pipe is an issue you can buy hard pipe insulation at Home Depot .

after seeing so many mufflers unreasonably expensive for being some sheet metal and foam, im probs gonna diy muffle..or theres some shops that sell neoprene clamps, those seem interesting..
