How do I properly feed my plants?

I'm less worried about the watering amounts and more concerned on how to properly feed it when it says X tbs : 1 GALLON when I only feed 1/8th gallon at a time. If I only give them 1/8th gallon as a feeding, am I drastically missing out on nutes?

1 tbsp:gallon just refers to the concentration(strength) of the nutrients you are feeding. It doesn’t mean you have to give a plant a whole gallon of it. Different sized plants drink different amounts of water.

I have about 8 pots right now, so I currently mix 1 gallon at a time and feed them 2 cups out of that gallon per pot per day, but I don't know if I should feed them until they get 1 gallon of fertilized water or just the one time application of the 2 cups.

Did you read their website about what to do? Its a mix of coir and organic soil...they say:

Directions For Use:

• Fill pot or container with Organic Coco Coir Blend
• Fully hydrate with fresh water
• PH balanced nutrient solution between 6.2 and 6.8 is optimal
• Transplant seedling or mature plant in Organic Based Coco Coir Blend
• Store under 105°

Grow tips for growing with Organic Coco Coir Blend:

• Use nutrient solution at 1/3 to 1/2 recommended strength for the first 4 to 6 weeks
• Do not allow Coco Coir medium to completely dry out
• Run nutrients at full strength after week 8
• Mix nutrient solution at a ph between 6.2 and 6.8
• Water once every 2 to 3 days
• When watering try to maintain at least a 10% water run off rate

@waterproof808 That was kind of what I was wondering, I knew I should't give them the whole gallon at once, but I wasn't sure if the feeding schedules took into consideration I'm not watering with a gallon.

So if my plant needs 10ml/1 gallon, I can just mix a gallon and take the amount my plants will drink (2cups) from that 1day, and that's its feeding for the week? The other nutes say every other watering, the salts say 1 once per week.

Is '2 cups' watering to 10% run off. You've sort of dodged answering if you're watering to runoff or not.

Yes, after the 2 cups my one pot that's plastic has about 30% run off. I said my ph is 6.0 and my ppm was 1,000, that was runoff reading. 6.0 is a little low for the blend according to the bag but the plants don't seem to mind. The other pots that aren't producing run off are fabric and are watered slightly less often, usually every other day. but the same amount and pot size.

Yes, eventually the plants might need a whole gallon or more depending how big they get, so when that time comes you will have to start mixing up a bigger batch of nutrients.

I'd be doing the fabric ones to runoff as well, though it may be more water. Less attention to what you're pouring in in terms of volume as long as you're getting runoff out the bottom. The medium says it should be 2-3 days between applying, so I wonder if you're in an exceptionally dry place or maybe the coco isn't getting fully went consistently. I'd follow the once-a-week rule but I'd pay attention to this:

• Use nutrient solution at 1/3 to 1/2 recommended strength for the first 4 to 6 weeks

Since that suggests the medium is already 'hot'. Not sure that it's beneficial to be using 3 bloom-specific nutrient products at the same time, but if your plants don't die, then you do you.

I know what you're getting at Chicken.
I'll try and make it simple as possible.
You're not feeding the weight of the nutrients. You're feeding the solution. The weight is just the ratio to water.
Feed every time you water. Half strength is a great place to start.
Mix the nutrients by gallon (or half gallon) and feed whenever the pots go dry.
The nutrients will hold a week. Just stir it up every time before you water.

if this is an indoor grow which im going to guess it is are you using ffof? i can write down a fool proof translant method where you will only have to feed your plants twice the entire grow and come out with pretty good stuff.

I just blend up some leftovers into liquid and pour over. They’re favorite is pepperoni pizza and Mt dew….

The amount of solution given to the plant does not determine amount of food provided, thats EC which does. It sounds like you are more concerned if your water enough, thats other thing. BTW your blend is amended coco, not sure how this gonna work once you hit flower. Good luck!

@euphoria526 don't forget crushed up tums for that calcium.

This is my second grow with this medium, my first grow was a 5'5 Straw Berry Cough that bloomed really well. The guy at the hydro shop said it was a good medium for if you're not transplanting pots and just going with one soil for seedling to harvest. I just bought a EC reader this week, I'm still learning what it all means. My watering can probably be changed to something like 4 cups every 3 days.

@LeastExpectedGrower I used recharge after I saw my ppm was 1,000 to try to prevent nute lock and cut down the heat. They were originally fed with hard water that I just tested this week and has a ppm of 450~550. I switched to distilled water and I'm going to get an RO machine next pay check.

@drsaltzman Thank you for your patience, I wasn't sure if watering with regular water the rest of the week would flush out the nutes before the plant can get to it too.

My 5'5 strawberry cough was fed almost nothing, and I wanted to experiment with the "top shelf" blooming fertilizers this time around. People say fox farms sucks but I want to experience it for myself as a part of the learning curve. Their hydroponics trio was what I fed my strawberry with.

Yeah that's their only OMRI listed product. I flush for a week, but my next grow I'll probably try OMRI fish ferts. I should expect some mutant GMO buds with this "Open Sesame" then right?

Ya, that bugs me that they sell decent organic soil, but then sell you all kind of chemicals to put on it.

Mark Boutwell says Fox Farms spray's their soils with chem nutes. Anyone know anything about this?
