how do u get just a bud on the plant?

Buds won't grow without the leaves feeding them. I'd guess your talking about a plant that has been lolli-popped. But post a pic of what you're talking about.

i think he is talking bout lollipopping cuz that^^ makes no sense ta me...post a pic though if you just want one main bud jus grow and dont top your plant, it'll have that natural "xmas tree" look to it if that's what u mean...

Pot size has nothing to do with it.
You need a strain that doesnt stretch out too much in flower. I have a pure sativa (Arjan's ultra haze #1) that grows 3 feet tall so not every strain is gonna work for you.
Step 1.Take a clone and as soon as its rooted put it straight into flower.

As long as you have something that is indica dominant you should be hunky dory.
Doing this from seed is a bit of a crapshoot. Seedlings won't flower until they're ready, and usually they get at least a foot tall before they're done. others stay really tiny and produce next to nothing. occasionally you'll get a plant that does what you want it to, but its not something you can rely on.

you can achieve that with sativa or indica but only in clone form, as the guy above said, seed plants will only start flowering when they ready, you can veg for 2 weeks and then flower it but it still won't start flowering for another 2 weeks,
you need to have a bonified female mother to take as many clones from as you want, let them root and give them around a week of veg after rooting, then you can achieve that look with almost any plant, some will grow a bigger bud than others but thats down to the strain

Not a great picture, but this is proof that not all strains are good candidates for single bud sea of green.
12/12 from a 3" clone and it's already 3 feet tall with relatively long nodal spacing.
