How Do U Keep A Mother Plant For Years Or Is That Possible

im not sure how long u can keep a mother plant growing so u can keep taking clones how would this process work u only 1 to 2 cuttings every month ? i assume cutting alot of clones off it will take it alot longer to grow more back ?

oh and if i were to cut all the growing tips off the plants and plant them as clones would my stock ever grow any tips again ? im meaning if the stock was completly bare ?? or can it still grow alot more tips with just 1 branch on it

yeah just keep it under 18/6 forever and treat her right, but it's best to keep a mom for a shorter period of time as it will get pretty big and need more upkeep/soil, etc. I would think that the number of clones cut at one time would affect the rate of re-growth as theres more sites being regenerated. As for if you cut all the growing tips off, new ones would sprout so no worries there ;)

no it wont(im not 100% though). its not like a rose bush were you can plant it with like no foliage and it grows . you shouldnt cut more than 1/2 off at a time. its even better if you leave 2/3 of the plant.. yea something like that...:peace:

Yes ... The plant will live long as long as you take care of it... When you make a clone and when you cut it off the top all that happens is that the two branches on the sides at the top will take over and take growth... The plants growth might slow down but as long as you got the plant its all goood..

Not only that but Im pretty sure you only cut the growing tips nothing else for cloning . And as soon as you cut one tip it will in two weeks grow back into two tips.

I was wondering the same thing ...... about how long and how small you can keep a clone.

If I have one strain that I really like (Kashmir). But, I have a batch of a different strain that I need to flower (Silver Haze). And, I already have a bunch of Kashmir ... but I'm all out of Silver Haze. I would want to keep the Kashmir mother alive so when I am ready, I can start taking clones. But, that might be 6-9 months down the road.


So, how long can you just keep trimming and bonzai-ing a mother.

If you know what you're doing, you can do this for literally years. I know of people who have kept a single "mother" plant going for 10+ years

To address some of the other points in this thead:

-You never cut off all the growing areas. Do that and the plant will die. Always leave at LEAST half in place (more is better).

-The younger/greener you harvest the growth shoots, the easier they will be to root.

-The more you prune off the plant (to take clones) the bushier it becomes. That's not good for FLOWERING, since you'd end up with hundreds of tiny "popcorn" buds, but its ideal for a "mother" plant where the idea is continuously harvest new growth for clones.

-If your mother plant is becoming unmanageable, you can always convert one of the clones into a new mother plant.

If you're only doing a small scale grow and don't have the ability/desire to keep a mother, this is fine.

You might also consider just re-vegging previously flowered plants to regenerate them for subsequent grows (or to take clones from them).

But if you're a commercial or large scale grower, and you want to fill a room with dozens of clones (or you want to generate clones themselves for commercial sale), you're simply not going to be able to pull off enough of them from a single small young vegging plant to get the job done.

Hello sir! How often can i convert a clone into a mother plant i mean is there some kind of genetic depression if i make a motherplant from the clone of the clone of the clone.....?

My plants in veg right now were taken from my plants that went into flower weeks ago.

I’m just going to keep doing that from now on.
