How do you change your res?

I'm looking for the easiest way to change my res before i set up my new hydro grow.

keep in mind this IS NOT my first grow!

i'm just leaving soil.

so should i run a pump to empty out my res when the waters done?

its in a small space and i don't have much room to be carrying water out every time it needs to be changed.

do you think that would work well? got anyother ideas?

I use a small submersible pump to drain the res. This way I am able to keep adding water while I clean out the res to get all the sediment. 3/4 in tubing will fit into a standard hose so you can run the hose right up to your drain.

I have a valve fitted at the end of my drip line so I just use the main pump to empty my reservoir. Cheap and convienent, like sickstoner does, I just run a piece of tubing from the valve to the nearest sink.

how big can you grow them is your setup? i was thinking of ebb n flow but i'm not sure , the room is not that tall about 5 feet if that do you get a decent amount of plants that way?

I just set up a screen at 1.5ft above the top of my reservoir to train my plants into. Look up some posts on Screen of green'ing (scrog) and other methods for growing your plants out horizontally instead of vertically to save space. If you trim and train your plants right you can get higher yields out of smaller spaces. The link to my grow in my signature has some better pics of what I did. The shelf in my closet is at about 5.5 feet so we both have about the same vertical space to work with.

DWC or Aero will both give you better results than ebb & flow system. Not to bash EBB systems, that is what i currently have but if i had to redesing my room, i would go DWC.
I have had way better harvest on my 1st recirculated DWC system.

Aero would be my design of choice, easier to maintain/clean and the best results of all, so I've read.

Both DWC and Aero will produce ridiculous large crops, are easy to clean and maintain. DWC is usually cheaper to built tho.

I can see why, without having to buy all the spray nozzles, if it weren't for that I might have an argument... :)

this sucks with the room i haver it looks like ebb n flow its gunna have to be
Why is that sick? how much space are you talkin?

Its an attic stealth grow and it is almost imposable to tend to every bucket in the room and still have the amount of plants i want to grow'
i have barely enough room to squeezes in to water my soil pots now

If you use 3 inch pots for a soil grow then no, you will stunt the plants growth. Using the net pots for a hydro/aero system though isn't drastically limiting the plant as its roots are free to grow as big as they want in the water tank below them.

It may be in your best interest to switch to a hydro system where you would just have to add water to the single reservoir once every few days. And like Xan2 is saying it really is dirt cheap to DIY. All it requires is a 3 or 4 dollar rubbermaid or similar storage bin (you can get it in any size that fits) and about 30 dollars worth of basic hydro supplies like the net pots, hydro media (hydroton, rockwool, etc.), and basic air or water pump and tubing depending on your design. The massive plants you get compared to a like sized soil grow would be well worth the minimal investment.

Sorry for the blurriness of the pic but u can get an idea of what the roots are doing below the pots in a hydro grow.

Yeah, if you can squeeze few pots, you can squeeze few DWC buckets or even a single tub like African shown.
Like i said, DWC or Aero are the way to go... and like Mike Holmes would say.. Make it right.. lol

with my room and my ventilation issues the tube would block my window intake
so ebb n flow would allow me to rum my vent houses over my res and up into the canopy thanks anyway really.
in my vegging room i'll do the DWC the move them into the EBB in flowering.
how does that sound?

the simplest way is to have 2 base trays and just swap them . Consider having you air pump and water pump running through the lid and this will make this way easy

well, i bought an extra pump" a small one", so i just drop it into my rez and buy a tube long enough to reach my bath tube and i just drain it till the pump cant get the rest. the rez is real light after that, so i just pick it up and dump it. when filling i just fill up a 5 gallon bucket and drop my pump in the bucket and put the tube into my rez. then i add the nutes after
