how do you fuck up a miss?

I apologize for the quality of these pics but here's the thing: I FIMd this plant last week or 5 or so days ago and made what I thought was the perfect cut, leaving 80% of the top shute, but it seems to have just said 'fuck you' and kept growing vertically,. Though it did start pushing new growth from other nodes, it certainly doesn't appear to have made any new tops. How do you fuck up a miss? I thought at best it would have acted as if I just topped it. What gives here?

ugh, what I meant was that I CUT 80% and left 20%. I'll put some better pics up in a sec. But even if I cut only 20%, wouldn't it sprout two tops just as if I had topped it rather than FIM?

No. Cutting off too much would make it a normal topping. Cutting not enough means you just trimmed the leaves...

until someone can tell me how I can manage to fuck up an anvil with a hair pin, it is just one of them things that can, and will happen.........>:( :weed:

growindad that's it! Just didn't cut enough. Those leaves were definitely trimmed, thought that's just what it would look like. But yeah, I didn't cut enough. lesson learned.

This is why I stick to topping and FIM a few plants every outdoor season for fun. I miss missing often, I find topping more reliable in my garden.

I FIM'd for the first time about a week ago, and am having pretty good results, I think. The plants are really starting to bush out, and I think I did it the right way. Maybe you could just try the cut again, with a little more precise miss? Good luck!

Fimming creates new nodes which is why people do it a few times depending on how many nodes they want. Topping allows the new nodes to become more like the top node only now you have more which is the point. I prefer this method verses low stress training simply because it is faster, although you can get way more nodes training.
