For a 12/12 grow a indica strain would be best.
The amount of light depends on the plant count... For a 5-10 plant grow a 600w hps would do the job.
If you want to do a 12/12 from seed grow you would immediately start with a 12/12 light schedule.
ok would you use 6500k or 2700k from start?
what strain would be good? I am thinking of just a small 250watt, how many plants and what size smart pot?

well the plant wont veg long. it will go straight to flower. the plant will grow short and up, not bushy.
the reason for doing a 12/12 from seed grow is to have the shortest possible veg period, the plant will grow until its minimum size that it can start producing buds and then go in to flowering
so you have room for more plants too,because it saves space from not growing bushy and fat.
Type 12/12 from seed into the search bar, there is a group dedicated to growing 12/12fs there are a lot of pages to go through but if you read for a bit you will find lots of strains that reacted well to the 12/12 light cycle. I probly wouldnt put more than 4 plants under a 250w 2 or 3 might be better as for the pot 2.5-3 gallons would be a good finishing size.

search "multi strain 12-12 from seed grow" look at serial violators journal (5th thread or so) and look at his grows he has some very nice 12-12fs grows they grow to the minimum hight that the plant can grow which is nice for people with limited vertical grow space and its also a shorter grow, i actually like the idea of doing 12/12fs
