How do you jam?

I know there are a few musicians out there on roll it up, and I wanna know who they are...

I'll start us off.

I've been playing trumpet for about 5 years now and I'm getting pretty good, it's always been a school thing, but it's still fun.

I've been playing piano for forever on and off, I'm good, but I have to improvise, I can't play written pieces, it's just not in me.

I've been playing guitar for about a year, although I'm quite terrible, because I can never stick with it, but when I get the inspiration I'll pick it up for 2-3 days straight, only to set it down for another 2 weeks. Oh well, one of these days.

Alright, let's hear it.

i kick ass on the triangle, lol jk i can play a tiny bit of basic piano shit and had a go at learning guitar and gave up

I've been playing the piano/keyboard for 12 years. I started playing for my church at 16 and have since played at several other churches and various events. I can play gospel and old time rock n roll, new age, ambient and blues. Despite my success I eventually got kicked out of the church for deciding to become another gender and as a result I no longer play for that scene any longer. I didn't like their fake bipolar god anyways so it wasn't much of a loss to me but I really miss entertaining people with my music.

been playing guitar for 14 years and im a hard rock vocalist...ive done some stuff on a major album for a band i wont mention for fear of being recognized...lol...also what im kicking myself over and over in the head for is I just recently turned down a major deal.... was with a band on the verge of being signed by either capitol, atlantic....or ...i forget the other... they got ahold of my vocals and seen me on video....and said i had star quality... i flew first class from Pa. to L.A. for free anytime i wanted to record a demo for them... but halfway through i got cold feet and ran... thought it was what i wanted at the time... then my 3 kids and woman came into consideration and i dropped out...now i regret it horrably...anyways this was march of this year...now the bands pissed at me...and im pissed at me to...lol...im an idiot i know....im trying to get the courage to call the band back up and try to get the ball rolling again...just felt like getting that shit off my chest...sorry for rambling....

played guitar for a number of years, bass too.

also a tiny bit of piano and ukulele on the side.

played in numerous bands.

ultimate guitar is great. i get all my guitar pro files from there! :D

I'll second that ultimate guitar is great, that's what I use for my tabs, but I want to improvise, but I find myself getting stuck.

I'll learn something new, scales for example, but when I learn a new one I can't remember the old, and I have trouble with my progressions, etc.. it's a mess. :cuss:

does anyone ever get into a good jam with a band?

sometimes me, bass player and drummer would have 10-20 minutes solid jamming and there would be moments that it was intense.

ever get to that stage?

I have a friend who plays drums so we occasionally double team it with me either on piano or guitar, it's probably not that great, but we really enjoy it.

What's even moer amazing to us is we pick up when the other wants to change the direction of the jam, ahh good times.

yea, when you all feel it and it works. it's great

i left my guitar lesson the other day with so much knowledge and understanding it was unreal. from that lesson i took away so much and i believe it made me a better player instantly.

Ya, I've been wanting to get good at guitar moreso than the other instruments, I'm not sure why, but anyway I think a few good guitar lessons might set me straight

definately, i've been having them for a while from a pro.

feel kind of annoyed with myself that i haven't been practicing listening to him more.

but now my understanding is much greater and im so keen to learn.

haha,

well when i first went, i had hardly played at all.

he doesn't really teach songs, he says that's not really a good way to learn. and it's true i guess.

but we started off with simple stuff. AC/DC for example, basic chord knowledge and simple scales. pentatonics etc....

it got the ball rolling though, and when you are learning it's very rewarding to nail a song. i think highway to hell was the first one i learnt.

fun to play and when i had done it he taught me how and why it works.

simple chord progressions and basic understanding of why a song works is key to learning.

that was years ago though, now i'm looking into modes of scales, how to apply them etc... sounds basic but the amount of knowledge behind it is overwhelming.

Ya, I figured the song thing wasn't a good idea, but was just checking.

I've been motivated enough to search around for online videos, etc.. but it's probably nothing like getting an hour or 2 hands on lesson, especially if your teacher is cool

i just love playing high, when it works out (generally chord progressions) i feel great about myself.

atleast you've stuck with it, i hope i never become so apathetic that i give it all up...
