how do you make Thai Stick?

o.K. ....I'VE READ ALL THE THREADS AND TO THE BEST OF MY KNOWLEDGE I WILL TELL YOU HOW IT WAS DONE IN CIRCA'94....IN THAILAND BY A GROWER FROM THE PATTAYA BEACH AREA........(I WAS THERE FOR THE PROCESS AND CAME BACK FOR THE SMOKE).

ONCE THE BUD IS 75% DRY ( UNDERSTAND IN THAILAND THE DRYING PROCESS IS MUCH FASTER DUE TO HEAT AND HUMIDITY) IT IS DIPPED IN BHO AS YOU YOUNGSTERS CALL IT OR PREMIUM HASH OIL. IT IS THEN WRAPPED W/ THE BAMBOO. IF IT IS A PERSONAL GROW IT IS USUALLY THEN CURED AFTER BEING ROLLED IN PREMIUM HAS OIL.

NOW THE SMOKE I HAD WAS SO POTENT IT MADE A "FRIEND" OF MINE FEEL AS THOUGH THAT SAID FRIEND WAS HAVING AN ANXIETY ATTACK!!! HIS HEART SPEED UP TOO FAST!!! HUH SATIVA TROPICAL THAI AND HASH OIL= GONE!!!

dont think so man. thai stick is just the way it grows and it cured. usualy wrapped in foil and an eighths is a fair few inches long
True thai stick was a curing process, buds are tightly wrapped around a stick (bamboo sliver is typical, though one could use a decent dried piece of straight stem if one has it) while moist, and a string (again, one could use the natural hemp fiber from the stem, or any kind of breathable thread is ok). The buds should be done with initial drying, and broken down into smaller more manageable nugs. The sticks would then be wrapped in rice paper, and left in a dry dark place to fully cure.

LOL... in the 70's when it was more affordable lol

Thai Stick is well and smoking here in San Jose, Cali. A friend bought a stick at a dispensary here, it was expensive but worth it. It is definately "dipped". It is supposed to be from Thailand, and is a real sativa high.p1010005.jpg

ok this is what I learned, take your flowers (ready to smoke, preferably chocolate thai) and skewer (preferably with a cannabis stem) or "tie" them to the stem using fibers from cannabis, dip this into hash oil. Let the oil dry on the tied flower and repeat as needed. To store it, my old Thai-mers said they purchased it wrapped in nylon. They say it was dark and sticky, so the flowers where matured on the plant untill the trichomes turned darker and was also cured longer on the boat ride to the us. So,
flowers ready to smoke + a long cannabis stem + fibers from the cannabis plant + hash oil + drying = the closest thing we have to a time machine. Enjoy!

This is a very old thread but.......
I remember having a Thai stick in the early 80's.
The stick seemed to be squarish like an incense stick, the weed was brown and was a heavy, boring smoke. It didnt taste anything like hash or dipped in anything.
2-3 hits and I was stoned for hours.
The string was very thin and strong. No doubt hemp string from the stems.
I think an 1/8 cost me around $40.
Ounces cost me $60 back then(of Mexican brick weed).

Lots of bogus info in this post. It is obvious you had to be smoking by the middle-70's or you have never seen a real Thai stick. I don't remember seeing them after 1976 or so. The original sticks showed up around 1970 where I was in western Michigan at the time. They were a uniform length of 6 inches or so. means they were all the same length. Us dealers knew that if you were selling someone a quantity of TS you had to trim a half-inch or so off all of them to disguise the removal. The sticks themselves were real skinny slivers of bamboo, maybe half as wide as a toothpick. All the reefer was short little sugar leaves usually less than a half-inch long that were a honey-gold in color. Very little variation in the color of the dope. They used 2 really thin hemp fibers to weave the leaves onto the stick. No one ever tried to smoke a whole TS without unwrapping it. Would be like leaving the cellophane on a cigar and smoking it. For a topic like TS stick to listening to OG's like me. Been there, probably done it. BigSteve - 49 years and counting!

We use to get Thai Sticks, Buddha Sticks, and Elephant weed in the 70's. never saw them after about '75. In the early 80's people in Nor Cal were making Sensi Sticks, which were sens buds rolled into sticks about 10 to 15 inches long and about 1/2 to 3/4" wide. They came wrapped in newspaper. Some of the first sensimilla to hit the scene. I'm still skeptical about Thai Sticks being dipped in anything at all. I'm not saying it didn't happen. Sticks were the best weed around by far. I remember when sticks were getting hard to find we started to get Thai Shake that smelled just like Thai Stick, not as potent but still better than most Mexican varieties, with the exception of some of the Columbians, and the Reds and Golds. I do miss those strains, just can't find anything that tastes like those old strains. The good Columbian came in very tight buds, cat turds, and tasted and expanded like hash.

I know this is old but there isn't one completely correct answer on here. Thai sticks were NOT dipped in opium, lsd, or any other substance for that matter. The reason they were so potent is because the weed was killer yes but they were wrapped in cannabis leaves just like a cigar and those leaves were stuck on with hash oil. This also makes them burn very slowly. One thai stick containing an 1/8 can last several hours and get a room full of people STONED! You weight out however much, say an 1/8. Use a bamboo skewer such as for grilling and skewer the whole buds onto the stick and push them closely. Try to use even size buds. Now use hemp string(hemp wick is best because its coated in wax and sticks to itself)and firmly evenly wrap the buds with the line. Leave overnight. Next day carefully unwrap the string, take fresh cannabis leaves and coat the backside of them with hash oil one at a time. Apply leaves longways all the way around the cigar/thai stick, then apply another layer the same way wrapping the leaves this time around the stick. Apply the hempwick again snugly and evenly and leave 24hrs again. Then its ready to unwrap, pull the stick out, light and enjoy! Yes its takes 2 days to roll a thai stick correctly. A thai stick basically is a weed cigar filled with solid buds with a hole through the center and wrapped in two layers of hash oil and fresh cannabis leaves. This is meant to stone a group of people and burn several hours. Original Thai Sticks were skewered onto cannabis stems or chopsticks. Traditionally hemp string or twine was used to do the wrapping and compressing. The wrapping technique also evens the buds out so the cigar is the same thickness the entire length of the cigar/stick. Now hempwick is used because it sticks to itself which holds the string on and keeps the bud compressed overnight for two nights. This allows the cigar to hold its shape until the hash hardens. Thai Sticks are fantastic and a way to modernize a legendary method. Did I mention they burn for hours and get a group of people ROCKED! lol.images-17.jpg images-19.jpg images-10.jpg

Wow, no real answer yet, surprising.

Thai stick was created during the times of the Nam war. All it is, is the full dense buds that are tied to sticks, and from there dipped in BHO, or another form of hash oil. So basically some killer sinsemillia soaked in hash.

If you're curious of how to make it, all you really need to know is how to make BHO. I'm sure there's plenty of different ways to make hash oils (QWISO for example), but here's a link for BHO.

NOPE!

Dipped in Opium i heard.
Not as many as you've heard,,,,,They were NOT ALL dipped at all! They never really got back to the US like that!

There was an article in high times on exactly how to do it, dont remember which month, but like somebody said before you make has oil and soak them in that, then wrap it tightly around a stick.
Where does this "dipped in oil" shit come from anyway?

good old dusted thai stick that will give you some shit to talk about, havent' thought back that far in a min.last time I smoked some was back in 86 and it had so much PCP on it, it looked laced with coke.and I didn't leave the house for two days and lost my job thai stick is a thing of the past that dosent need brought back.weed is so much better now than back then, course it was only like $20 for a full baggie, but the lamest commercial today is damn near the best back then...there were exceptions all are
Don't know where you were but, there was weed back then as good as most of today's. Pure strains you don't see any more. There's also things out there today that kick it's ass and most of that, the bulk of you young uns haven't even heard of. Things that will never be sold by a "seed" bank.

FYI - Thai Stick is nothing but KILLER Thai bud tied to a small piece of bamboo or stem using a fiber of hemp to tie it. I know, I bought 2000 of them in Bangkok in the late 70's for 5 cents a piece! And it was truly killer two hit weed. The sticks were about 6" long and about as thick as your little finger.

Why would anyone want to recreate the stick part? Knowing what I do now, the practice almost seems damaging to perfectly good bud.

Part right. Here's the lowdown on Thai stick in the as I knew it back in the day.

Read my posts starting here.

I would go back and read the whole thread after that. Then you decide what a Thai stick is.
