How do you save money?

How do you save money, and how much money do you save per month?

I'm curious to get a general idea from other people like me. I hear 30% of your paycheck is what economists say you should save. Do you stick to that rule?

What do you save for? Vacation? New car? House? Move out? School? Kids college fund? Emergency? Rainy day?

How many different bank accounts do you keep? Do you keep strict guidelines on not touching what you put in?

I'm really trying to become more efficient at saving my money. It's tough when you pay bills and smoke weed...

How long have you been saving? Did you start out with a plan from the beginning? Like "at 25 I want to have at least $5,000 saved, at 30 at least $10,000, at 35 at least $20,000..." or do you just save what you can when you can and accumulate it that way?

Use a 401K plan or something similar? How much have you earned through that?

This is all pretty personal stuff again, so if anyone doesn't feel comfortable answering anything, I understand. Like I said, just curious to how other people do it these days, what's on everyone's "want" list... that type of stuff.

i wish i could save. but i dont get anywhere near enough money to save up. most of my money goes on weed and petrol. it will stop soon and il be able to start saving. just finishing my first grow. what i get out of this crop should last me till about december time. and by then il have my nest crop nearly ready. i usually spend about £80-£100 a week on weed. which is about $150. no more buying weed tho :)

so i think its time to save. cant wait, il have so much more money haha.
what about you dude?

I buy mids.. lol. Headies are a once in a while thing since I don't grow. It's tough saving money for me as well. Being in college and then working only part-time with a car payment and a baby on the way, pretty much impossible for me to save. I do usually save the majority of my student loan money for any emergencies. This has already come in handy before when my car broke down and I ended up putting money down on a new one and leasing it. If I didn't have that 2k I would've been screwed. I didn't want to keep fixing the old piece of shit to only have it break down again, and I had no credit so I figured a new car would only be beneficial, especially with a baby coming.

I've always been good at saving money for things that i want. When I was 10, I started saving for my first car. Bought my first car for 10,000 in cash when I was 16. Then, I wanted to save for a house. By 23 I had my own house. I didnt buy unnecessary things, I didnt blow a ton of money on girls, If I went to a casino I brought $100. If it wasnt my night, I left.

These days, I think people just spend too much money on useless shit. Most people dont plan for the future, only what the present holds for them. Im 33 now and have been working at the same company for 10 years. A portion of my paycheck goes to buying company stock at a discount, a portion goes to a kids college fund, a portion goes to paying the mortgage, a portion goes to the checking account for other various bills (satellite, internet, groceries, etc). Then, any bonuses received go to my car (Im a car nut and like tracking).

Anyway enough rambling. Just be smart. Do you really need that new 60" lcd 3D tv when your 50" lcd works just fine? You dont need super expensive clothes, cars, jewelry, etc. Unless you like living that lifestyle, but end up working at Jack in the Box when you're 60.

And there's nothing wrong with that. It goes without saying that a nice home needs nice furniture and decor. I have nice furniture as well, and keep it in good condition so I dont have to buy a new sofa every few years. Im just saying that being smart about what you spend money on goes a long way.

Having large sums of cash around or in a savings account isnt very smart. Buy some stock, buy gold, research better ways to make your money work for you.

good call...always invest in something, make your money moved and not let it sleep in the bank. money depreciates, buy gold...we need gold to make money anyways.
