how does this hanger work?

how does this light hanger work? i think mine are broken because i have to hold the light down and it retracts automatically. is this normal? i was under the impression that the reason for this type of hanger was so i could easily raise and lower. say i need the light aout 15 inch's from my plant right, well i have to raise my bucket! ive tried loosening and tightening the wing nut under every combination that i could try. i have to use a pencil to keep the tension. c the pic. how do i get it to lock at 14, 13,12 etc intervals ?

i have the same one, but i just have to loosen my wingnut and i can easily play with the height then tighten. it always seems to drop a bit tho. Idk wat intervals you are talking about, like inches? you just have to measure at that point

i can loosen, lower, but when i tighten the nuts the light zips right back up, it doesnt seem to keep tension

hmm yea sounds like something inside is messed up. im sure it resembles a pull starter where the wire is taught around a coil under tension inside the housing, you could mess with it, but if a nigrig works then i guess that will have to do.

I have the discount yo yo hangers. the weight of the reflector is supposed to keep the string pulled out. The nut stops it from extending any further. I really hate these hangars. i just got rid of 4 of them.

yeah these seem to be junk, got broken stuff bummer

had these, didn't like them. Tried pulleys, better, but still kinda a pain. Chains that you can move up on hooks seems the easiest for me.

or just do what I did ..... get a $70 3/4hp electric winch ...... it will hold 6 8"sealed hoods

dzamn! im just runnin 1 400 watter, but if i was doin somethinlarge then yea that would be a neccesity
