How far away from seedling should CFL lights be?

My Sensi seeds Skunk#1 Autoflower seedlings have sprouted from the soil wonderfully but my question is how far from seedlings and also later on from a grown plant should CFL lights be? I had them about 10 cm (4 inches) away.

I'm using 2 20 Watt CFL lights per plant. I'm growing them in my laundry room and there is plenty of sunlight (though indirect) in the room also.

I'm also wondering how often should I water them (I'm growing in soil)? Right now I've watered them every second day or so. So far I haven't added any fertilizers.

Thanks!

I wouldn't go any closer than four inches. CFL's have to be checked for height pretty much everyday. I just lost two nice shoots leaving them for two days at five inches. I don't know why but sometimes plants grow faster than other times, "like" spurts. CFL is all new to me. With 1kw HID I can set the light at 44" and not worry about it. With so many people on this site using CFL's I figured I should get in the groove. I see CFL growing as more of a hobby than a grow.

small CFLs like them can be kept real close, its more of a heat question, I keep mine 2-4" away from my 49W T5HOs, maybe like 4" and let em grow up to 2" before I move any thing, seedlings don't require much light to thrive, but you can keep em so fare away that the seedling will stretch to get in the strong light, but I think yours is about right for now, 10 cm from a 20W as a seedling sounds ok, let it grow up to 5 cm then move the light/plant agin

what light will it get in Veg ? and more important in flowering ? (where it will need 3x the amount of the light it needs in Veg to thrive)

CFL need to be Close, and after wk > 10 days?? can be as Close as 2" A Good Tip: Place Hand at same level as Tops of Seedlings/Plants IF after a few mins(or straight away) Hand becomes Warm/Hot then so are your Ladies So Raise the Lights!

CFL work best on side or angled NOT hanging straight down(Tips are DEAD ZONE: Little/No Lumens emitted)

Peace

And I think with CFL you want 50w(True) per Plant..could be wrong...
