How hard to make an intake from outside into my closet?

Im still struggling with the warm temps in my house. I have a closet where I can grow that is in the corner of my house and on the other side of the wall is my backyard.

So how do i go about cutting or drilling a hole to the outside and disguising it to look like a dryer vent or something that is supposed to be there?

I have a good drill and hole saw as well as a recip saw.

I was thinking of putting a good 4 inch inline fan right in front of the hole with some screen over the hole so bugs cant come in.

Tell me what to do pros!!

Before you cut a hole into the wall of your house maybe you should try to run a flexable dryer vent hose with an in line 4" fan over to a window ? I'm getting started in a closet as well and I'm setting up a 4" inline fan up into the attic for exhaust for my light.

No window even close to closet. Also Im going for stealth, which is why my setup is in a closet and not out in the open.

House guest: "hey why is that dryer tubing going from your closet to your window and whats all that light?"

Try to stick with cfl lights they
l keep heat down and if its still too hot there have been many post here with tricks for keeping heat down,try typing "heat issues" into the search block, you may get better results. Take care..good luck

I use all cfls now. If I leave my closet door closed with the lights on temps get into the 90s fast. With the door open it stays between 78-85 at most. It would be great to be able to have fresh air from outside being pumped into my hot closet or it might work better for air to be coming in from under the closet door and the hot air getting pumped out, either would be better than it is now.

i also live in texas and its a really bitch to get your temps down here , also no matter how much air your pushing from inside your temps are never going to be much lower than whatever your house temp is at. i baught a 8" intake fan and am waiting on the chiller to get here so i can use my homemade icebox. when i have ice in there it brings the temps to about 65-75 when they are 85-90 with just air moving. i was considering buying a portable ac unit but i couldnt get over the cost of running a another ac all the time. if you do want to make the hole in your house though i would just make shure you get some kinda filter for it because theres all kinds of mites and shit outside that you can pull in if your vents near the ground. but i have to ask i know how hot it gets here , unless your running things at night that air from outside is going to be hot. (and when it rains its going to raise your humidity levels. hot moist air is breading grounds for mold)

Yeah just thinking about the winter coming and making a sucessful grow. Wonder how much a small a/c costs to run? Im just sitting here looking at my temps in my room at 86 and my house is at 72 and its killing me. I have 3 fans going in a 2x3x6 tent and one fan outside the tent sucking air out as well as a cool humidifier shooting air into the room. FML this sucks. My temps were 80-84 the last few days but I just added 2 42 watt cfls to my 8 23 watt cfls and things are hot!!

i got this from another user but a good short term way to keep your temps down is to get a bucket (the kind they sell at home depot or lowes) and drill like 4 holes mid way through it and put water and ice in the bucket and get a fan to blow down in the bucket to that the wind has to hit the ice first then goes out into the grow room should drop you down to about 80 or so but it will only last about 1 or 2 hrs. i feel your pain im just using 1 300watt cfl and that thing gets hot
