i bet half the ppl on here couldnt do the pepsi challenge in terms of weed they all just make up shit about the high etc. its all a bunch of bull shit, high is high its THC that makes u high so maybe different strains can get u high faster if they got more THC but i dont htink there are different kinds of high ive been smokin for a long time and its all the same

You might be on to something...

I was watching some shit on t.v about some of the worlds most wealthiest people and shit, and they were under the impression they would be sampeling bottled water from all over the world to see which was the best.

The soon picked out the best, and it was TAP WATER.

I wish somebody had the time to do a "bud challenge"

Haha sorry my friend but your 100% wrong. It is a well known fact that with different strains come different sensations.

SO mayb they produce different sensations, BUT can you pick out which does or is which if not told what you are smoking??? All im ssayin is youd pick the tap water ...:joint:

hahaha hell yah I could pick out a difference. I guess it would be depnding on the strains I would be testing. But I would put my money on me.

As for giantethopian There was a 4/20 contest at a socal co-op I went to that had a game like that. You had a to try out 5 different buds and if you got 4/5 correct you got a free oz of your choice!!

From a theoretical perspective, I think I might be on the side of smi32th. THC is the active ingredient. So that would mean that different strains would have to produce different kinds of THC. But that isn't the case. THC is THC. Now that said...I am sure the different strains taste different. But not sure about the high.

Indica = sedative ; Sativa = uplifting. Outside of that...what else is there? Look at alcohol...you have wine, whiskey, rum, they all taste different...but when I am drunk off of any...I just feel drunk.

Reply to the original question: the higher the thc content (%) the higher you'll get. But i suppose each person can only absorb so many cannabanoids so that would be their limit regardless of the thc content past a certain percentage.

I know there are other compounds, but as far as psychoactive ones...it is THC that binds primarily to the CB1 receptors in the brain, and CB2 receptors throughout the nervous system periphery. As far as I know, THC is the ONLY part of cannabis that binds to these receptors. And those receptors are rather specific. I'd love to hear someones thoughts on it.

Gonna have to drop the elbow of knowledge on you guys!

"How to smoke.

1. Medicate with more potent cannabis – The 1997 Matthias-Tashkin study, “Effects of varying marijuana potency on deposition of tar and delta 9-THC in the lung during smoking” clearly suggests that smoking cannabis with higher THC content reduces exposure to potentially harmful tars, since less cannabis is smoked to deliver the same results as smoking a larger amount of low-potency cannabis. Your collective should be able to steer you toward more potent strains. And, of course, price is not always the best indicator of potency. Some research indicates that THC has a “peppery taste”. We’ve found this to be accurate at Cornerstone, when we place a tiny piece of high potency cannabis on the tongue, it does seem to taste like black pepper, though this also could be due to the presence of myrcene, an essential oil found in some cannabis strains. NOTE: Recently at CRC, we chose to no longer recommend that patients eat raw cannabis. The microbial counts on California medicinal cannabis are untested and cystolith hairs on the stems, used by the plant as a defense mechanism, can cause gastointestinal irritation.

2. Use a pipe – while many smokers prefer joints or blunts, they are not efficient at delivering THC to the brain. Rolled cannabis only delivers between 10 and 27 percent of the available THC in the cannabis cigarette according to the 1981 Lindgren, 1983 Wall, and 1993 Cone studies. THC also tends to condense in the butt of the joint, so that the last half-inch may contain as much as 50 percent of the overall THC in the joint.. At Cornerstone, we recommend using a clean glass pipe filled with just enough cannabis for a single inhalation. This one-hit technique eliminates most of the waste associated with sidestream smoke. One of the scientists on the Cornerstone advisory board recommends choosing the longest glass pipe or bong that you can find, since this will help to reduce the amount of tar that is inhaled, but does not interfere with THC dosage.

3. No waterpipes – While water or ice can reduce throat irritation from smoking, it also removes more THC and other cannabinoids than it reduces the amount of tar. In fact, water-filled bongs are actually less efficient than joints in delivering THC. So, unless throat irritation is a big concern for you, forget ice or water in your bong, though ice is better than water...

4. Get a good lighter – In our experience, short of using a magnifying glass and looking a bit silly, the cleanest way to ignite cannabis for smoking is with a butane cigar lighter especially designed for use at high altitudes. The best lighter of this type that we’ve used is the Pinnacle by Vector. It has a platinum catalytic afterburner that burns less fuel and does it more cleanly than any other lighter we’ve found. It retails for seventy-five bucks at most good cigar stores. It’s also been tested at altitudes up to 16,000 feet, so you’ll be able to medicate the next time you summit Mt. Whitney. Get some good filtered butane from Vector or Lucienne for it and you’re good to go.

5. Don't hold your breath, just inhale deeply... - Holding your breath in attempt to take in more of the active ingredients in smoked cannabis doesn't work. At all. The most extreme version of breath-holding is called the Valsalva maneuver, where you forcibly hold your breath, as if you were trying to equalize the pressure on your eardrums while scuba diving. Studies were done where subjects were asked to perform this maneuver after inhaling cannabis smoke. Surprisingly, it didn't increase the amount of THC they received. This might be due to how quickly THC passes through the wall of the human lung. Cornerstone recommends just inhaling deeply, then immediately exhaling. Breath-holding while smoking cannabis is a hard habit to break, but you'll get less tar in your lungs and all of the effect."

First off you are incorrect when you stated Indica/Sativa. If we are going to be sphincter stingily correct about what we say...then in reality sativa is indica, and indica is afghanica

It was all originally called Cannabis Sativa, In the world of botany. The word Indica's actual definition is anything that comes from india.

Cannabis Ruderalis is a subspecies of Cannabis Sativa. The term originated in former soviet union.
Ruderalis was once looked at as basically trash because of the extremely low THC content as well as the problems that it produced for the breeders. In recent time it's being used to make hybrids becuase people have kind of dialed in the positive attributes that they may have. A lot of BC bud is supposedly known for being crossed with ruderalis
Or as my good friend "m" puts it.

"Cannabis sativa ssp. sativa is classic European hemp. C. ruderalis refers to feral populations of hemp in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. The taxonomic designation of ruderalis is considered to be tentative until more accessions can be subjected to genetic and chemotaxonomic examination (in other words, they need more plants to reach a definitive conclusion on where it fits into the cannabis family)"

Also most people I know who smoke, know that it is common knowledge that there are very obvious differences between different strains. Not only the tastes but the effects. Why else in the world do you think that we would have all these different types of strains. Do you honestly think that the only difference is indica, and afghanica coupled with the different tastes that come along with different buds?

They don't breed all these strains for just taste/yield/potency but for the interesting one of a kind effects that come along with them. In my honest opinion, marijuana would get pretty dull pretty fast, if there were only two different effects when it came to smoking. "Sedative/Uplifting"

After all of that writing...you have not said anything scientific at all relating to HOW THC binds and what would cause differing effects. Thank you for your expose on nomenclature...I found that mildly amusing. Perhaps you could point your extreme competence at the issue of how different strains bind on different receptors??? You talk about how different strains have different effects...well can you prove how that happens being that there is only one formula for THC and it only binds to 2 recognized receptors???

Just like in nicotine ...whether you get it from a patch, cigarette, cigar, or pipe...it STILL binds to the same receptors.

It would also stand to reason that once those CB1 and CB2 receptors are saturated...you can get no higher.

Oh and the Sedative/Uplifting are generalized characteristics in case you missed that. Also, it is fairly common knowledge around here that most people do refer to the two major strains as Indica/Sativa...Just go to any seedbank website.

Here...just for you

The Differences of Cannabis Indica and Sativa plants.
Fat Leaves and Short Bush = INDICA
Thin Leaves and Tall Bush = SATIVA

Sativas are just about the opposite of Indicas. They are tall, thin plants, with much narrower leaves and grow a lighter green in color. They grow very quickly and can reach heights of 20 feet in a single season. They originally come from Colombia, Mexico, Thailand and Southeast Asia. Once flowering has begun, they can take anywhere from 10 to 16 weeks to fully mature. Flavors range from earthy to sweet and fruity. Sativa's higher THC than CBD equals cerebral, soaring type of high, more energetic which can stimulate brain activity and may produce hallucinations.
Sativa plants are taller, take longer to mature, have less chlorophyll and more accessory pigments (accessory pigments protect the plant from excessive sunlight). As Sativa strains have less chlorophyll than Indica they take longer to grow, mature, and require more light.
Sativa typically takes longer to germinate and flower also, and grows more gangly then Indica breeds.
Yield is usually lower than Indica, but is very potent. Thai Sativa grows taller and has a longer flowering period, so they are better suited for outdoors.
Indicas originally come from the hash producing countries of the world like Afghanistan, Morocco, and Tibet. They are short dense plants, with broad leaves and often grow a darker green. After flowering starts they will be mature in 6 to 8 weeks.
The buds will be thick and dense, with flavors and aromas ranging from pungent skunk to sweet and fruity. The smoke from an Indica is generally a body type stone, relaxing and laid back. Indica's higher CBD than THC equals a much heavier, sleepy type of high. Indica plants have a heavy, stony high that is relaxing and can help different medical problems.
Indica yield is usually higher than Sativa, and shorter growing season. Better for indoor growing, because they don't get as tall.
Indica plants are short, bushy, mature early, have more chlorophyll and less accessory pigments (accessory pigments protect the plant from excessive sunlight). As Indica strains have more chlorophyll than sativa they grow and mature faster.
