How important is heat under cloning tray?

is it that cold ???? i mean cmon i clone in a cold cellar no need for a heat mat that is just looking for trouble
Use a Blanket then place tray on top and if temps inside dome are still on the cool side then get a towel and cover complete dome light n all
i think you might be doing something wrong in your process
some minor rules before cloning
Water plant no nutrients few days before taking clones
have a sterile blade , and a bowl of water ph'd to 6.0
take cuts and immediately place cut stem in water
have medium prepared i personally like MG seedling start mix i make 2 liter bottle of ph'd water with 1 cap full of H202 mixed up get a pail pour seedling starter mix in it slowly pour water mixing soil until you can grab a fist full of soil squeeze it and it sounds it pours water out and has the squishy sound
Then place it in 1 " cube tray not packing it carefully putting it into trays and lighting pushing them down so trays are actually full
i then get a tooth pick and dip it in my bowl of ph's water n h202 then i place tooth pick on outside side of soil determining how deep i want to go 3/4's usually place my thumb into position then make my holes making it little bigger then stem
Once that is all done i then grab a cutting board which again is cleaned and also waterred with the ph's h202 water to sorta sterilize my cutting table
now i am ready have a cup with the same water where my blade is in.
i now take cutting first thing cut my leas in half,, place cutting side ways in cutting board do my angled cut usually where you see a new node forming from the cutting cut n middle of it ,
once that is done i then go up few centimeters and do a cut into stem and again one more time above that
like if you were looking at a actual fish hook how the metal part is seperated and where it hooks the fish note open end of cut is above not below so when you place it into soil it does not try to rip stem if you catch my drift ...
once this is all done i use number 2 stim root powder as well as liquid gel like 5 bucks is all it cost me
so i dip it first into liquid gel leave it there while i prepare next cutting then i take it out of gel dip it into #2 stim root same time placing my next cutting into gel from poweder into soil and so on and so on
key is being clean and sterile and most importantly 6.0 ph ...
when placing it in soil once cutting is in carefully pinch soil to cover stem etc and so on
hope this helps give it a try sure it will work and have cloned hundreds of thousands of plants this way with 100 percent clone.jpg gel.jpg

I'm cloning in a cupboard in the garage. Using a small cfl pointed at the wall. I'll cut the heat and see what happens to the temp and humidity. My well water is 7. I'll remember to ph it next time.

Hi guys,
Those of you that have a lot of success, what temperature do you keep it under the dome, when using one?

Cloning is a tricky business...you know, I've been growing for decades outside mostly, until I bought some LED lights. I've been trying to clone, save on seeds. I bought a cloning tray with dome and a heating pad with temperature control...see how that does. The last time I used it, it didn't work...it's very frustrating. My girlfriend's Mom used to cut clones from plants and stick them in a glass of water until roots showed up...I wish. One year, I cut off a branch that seemed to be getting in the way, so i clipped it, cut it at a 45 degree angle, dipped it in rooting powder, plopped it into some ProMix Mycorrhizae HP and it eventually took. Don't get discouraged because once you get the hang of it, it'll become well worth the previous turmoil in learning...well, sort of I guess.
