Mulching with humus/aged compost will help retain moisture and loosen up all that clay over time.

why are people tripping on 25 gal/every other day? large, quickly growing plants in hot, windy climates, add good drainage and hell yeah they use that much. mine do. I wanna see pics of people's plants - if yer plants are on par with garden bosses and yer using a fraction of the water then I say well done!

Thanks HOONRY, LOL....I agree it's ALOT of water. I have been down to 20 gal recently. As soon as the 110's come back then I will have to bump it up a little. Happy Growing

i have plants that big & i only give them 5gal every other day. but im in michigan, my temps stay around 80

80 - well there you go - probably have higher humidity out there too? low rh, high temps, and wind all conspire to strip water out of your plant faster than you can believe. every time I try to push it a bit with not watering my plants wilt - at this point I turn on the hose for as long as I feel they need it - they tell me.
